Industrial Internship – Civil Engineering / BIM / Site Development 10–12 Month Placement | September 2026 Start | Multiple UK Locations
We are hiring motivated Civil Engineering students for a 10–12 month Industrial Internship within a global, multidisciplinary engineering and built-environment consultancy. This placement is designed for students who want hands-on experience working on real infrastructure and site development projects while building the technical, digital, and professional skills required for a future graduate engineering career. From day one, you’ll contribute to live projects that shape cities, transport networks, energy systems, and sustainable communities.
Key Criteria (Essential)
- Currently studying Civil Engineering (or closely related discipline)
- On track for a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree
- Available to start a 10–12 month placement in September 2026
- Strong interest in infrastructure, site development, and the built environment
- Passion for sustainability and low-carbon design
- Curious, proactive, and eager to learn
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Right to work in the UK (no visa sponsorship available for this role)
Key Criteria (Desirable)
- Basic experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, BIM, or GIS
- Placement, internship, or summer work experience in engineering or construction
- Interest in digital engineering, automation, or data-led design
- Membership or working towards professional accreditation (e.g. ICE)
About the Opportunity
As an Industrial Placement Civil Engineering Intern, you will work alongside experienced engineers, designers, and digital specialists across a wide range of infrastructure and site development projects, including:
- Site development and earthworks
- Highways and transport infrastructure
- Sustainable urban drainage systems (SuDS)
- Flood risk and coastal engineering
- Utilities and water / wastewater infrastructure
- Energy and renewable infrastructure
- Data centres and large-scale developments
You’ll gain exposure across the full project lifecycle — from concept and feasibility through to detailed design and construction support. This internship is a recognised pathway into future graduate engineering roles within the organisation.
What You’ll Be Doing
Depending on your team, you may be involved in:
- Civil engineering design, calculations, drawings, and technical reports
- Feasibility studies, option appraisals, and business case support
- Site visits, surveys, and stakeholder meetings
- Collaborating with planners, landscape architects, environmental consultants, and BIM teams
- Producing drainage, highways, and site layouts
- Supporting sustainability and low-carbon design strategies
- Working with digital engineering and BIM tools
- Analysing and manipulating datasets to support engineering solutions
You’ll receive mentoring, structured training, and continuous feedback throughout the placement.
Tools & Software You May Use
- AutoCAD / Civil 3D / MicroStation
- BIM and common data environments
- GIS software
- Infraworks / Navisworks
- Drainage and water modelling tools
- Excel, Python, and digital automation tools
