Learning & Development Manager

This company is looking for a curious, people-focused Learning & Development professional to help shape how their teams learn, grow and build the capabilities they need for the future.

You’ll work closely with managers and colleagues across the business to understand development priorities, design engaging learning experiences and help people take ownership of their professional growth.

You’ll have a particular interest in the human side of performance — including adaptability, resilience, self-awareness and curiosity — alongside an awareness of how technology and new ways of working are changing the skills organisations need.

  • What you’ll be responsible for
  • Building skills and career development
  • Identify emerging capability requirements and translate them into practical development priorities.
  • Own and evolve our organisational skills framework, covering both technical and interpersonal capabilities.
  • Work with managers and colleagues to maintain an accurate picture of individual strengths, development areas and aspirations.
  • Develop resources that help teams identify colleagues with particular expertise and facilitate knowledge sharing.
  • Introduce effective ways of assessing capability, combining self-assessment, manager and peer input, and digital assessment tools.
  • Develop and maintain career pathways that clearly explain the experience, knowledge and capabilities required at different stages of progression.
  • Support colleagues in creating meaningful Personal Development Plans and ensure these remain active and relevant.
  • Embed development conversations and evidence of learning into performance, objective-setting and review processes.
  • Designing engaging learning experiences
  • You’ll take a broad view of what learning can look like. This could include:
  • Coaching and mentoring
  • Stretch assignments and project opportunities
  • Secondments and temporary role changes
  • Peer learning and knowledge-sharing sessions
  • Digital learning and e-learning
  • Short videos, podcasts and other bite-sized content
  • Conferences, workshops and external courses
  • Dedicated study or development time
  • Self-directed learning and reflection

You’ll evaluate what works, gather feedback from participants and use the findings to continuously improve our approach.

You’ll also keep up to date with emerging learning practices, platforms and technologies — including developments in AI and digital productivity — and identify opportunities to bring useful new approaches into the organisation.

Managing learning operations

Alongside programme development, you’ll make sure the day-to-day learning infrastructure runs smoothly. This will include:

  • Keeping learning records, resources and documentation accurate and up to date.
  • Supporting the administration and effective use of our learning platform.
  • Monitoring participation, completion and engagement.
  • Producing reports and insights to demonstrate the impact of development activity.
  • Improving processes to make learning easier and more accessible for colleagues.
  • Communicating learning opportunities and encouraging participation across the organisation.
  • How we’ll measure success

Your impact will be visible through

  • Increased participation and engagement in development opportunities.
  • Evidence of improved skills and capability over time.
  • High-quality learner feedback and satisfaction.
  • Stronger employee survey results around learning, development and career progression.
  • Clear visibility of current and future organisational capability requirements.
  • Meaningful development plans and career pathways.
  • Learning activity that demonstrably contributes to individual and business performance.

About you

You don’t necessarily need to have followed a traditional L&D career path.

We’re interested in people who have experience developing others and creating effective ways for people to learn, whether that has come through learning and development, management, education, operations, project coordination or another people-focused environment.

You’ll be someone who

  • Is genuinely interested in how people learn, develop and perform at their best.
  • Is curious about human behaviour, mindsets and subjects such as resilience, adaptability and self-awareness.
  • Enjoys discovering, creating and curating useful learning content.
  • Takes a proactive approach to their own learning and development.
  • Is comfortable using data and feedback to understand whether something is working.
  • Has an interest in emerging technology and has explored practical applications of AI and digital tools.
  • Can manage multiple projects, priorities and stakeholders effectively.
  • Communicates clearly and confidently, both verbally and in writing.
  • Enjoys experimenting with new ideas rather than relying solely on established approaches.
  • Is motivated by helping other people build confidence, capability and career opportunities.
  • What’s on offer
  • Permanent position
  • 22.5–37.5 hours per week

— applications are welcome from candidates seeking either part-time or full-time hours. Please indicate your preference in your application.
