The Earl of Essex is a well-established busy craft beer pub off the beaten track in the backstreets of Islington. A cosy interior with a nice wooden horseshoe bar and a spacious suntrap back garden, attracting workers and locals and craft beer enthusiasts alike. Expect a brisk weekday lunchtime trade and a consistently bustling evening rush. Saturdays start to get busy nice and early in the afternoon and Sundays are full of meat, gravy and potatoes.

14 keg lines and 6 cask lines allow for a broad selection of the best beers we can get our hands on, focussing on independent breweries and a balanced selection based on assured quality rather than shots in the dark. Lots of wine, spirits and simple but consistent cocktails are also sold in good quantity. Our food menu is focused on pubby classics and updates thereon, using high quality ingredients and almost everything made from scratch. Service is fast paced but friendly, with a good level of product knowledge from our staff, delivered in an accessible way.

Supervisors open and close the business, run shifts, do some paperwork and cellar management. Key is coaching the team on shift and leading from the front to engage with a wide range of customers with all the lovely beer we have on offer.

We strive to create a caring, supportive, and inclusive working environment. Whist hospitality experience is required for this role, we encourage people from outside the pub and craft beer world to come and work with us too. We are very happy to train people and welcome people from all backgrounds. We offer plenty of external training opportunities as well as in house stuff, and as part of a smallish group there is plenty of opportunity for extra hours at other sites and career development within the company.

If you fancy applying, please send your cv and a covering letter.
