Chartered Building Surveyor - Insurance Claims

Location: Southeast and London (Flexible depending on candidate location, with opportunities to cover the Southeast, London, or both.)

Overview:

We’re working with a well established and highly respected Loss Adjusting firm that is looking to grow its Surveying Services team across the Southeast and London.

They are looking for an experienced Chartered Building Surveyor to work on a range of commercial and domestic property insurance claims.

This is a great opportunity for a Building Surveyor, Loss Adjuster, Claims Surveyor or insurance professional with a strong surveying background. You’ll provide technical surveying support to insurers, adjusters and claims teams, helping to assess and manage property claims from start to finish.

• The role involves providing specialist surveying support across a portfolio of domestic and commercial property insurance claims. You will be responsible for carrying out surveys, inspections and investigations to assess the cause and extent of damage and determine the works required.
• You will use your building surveying expertise to assess damage, estimate repair costs and produce clear and accurate reports to support insurance claims. You will work closely with insurers, loss adjusters and claims teams throughout the claims process, providing technical advice and helping to ensure claims are assessed and managed accurately.
• Claims will vary in size and complexity, giving you the opportunity to work across a broad range of property damage. Depending on your experience, there will also be scope to become involved in larger and more technically complex claims.

The business has a growing Surveying Services operation, working across a varied range of domestic and commercial claims, with significant scope for progression. This includes opportunities to develop into more senior surveying roles, work on larger and more complex losses, move into technical specialist positions, contract administration, or management and leadership.

Role Responsibilities:

• Carrying out site inspections and surveys of domestic and commercial properties following insured events.
• Assessing the cause, nature and extent of damage to buildings.
• Producing clear and detailed technical reports, including repair recommendations.
• Preparing and reviewing scopes of work, specifications and repair cost estimates.
• Providing expert surveying advice to Loss Adjusters, Claims Handlers and insurers.
• Working alongside adjusters and claims teams to agree suitable repair solutions.
• Reviewing policy information and considering how the cover applies to the damage and proposed works.
• Investigating the cause and circumstances of losses where required.
• Liaising with policyholders, contractors, insurers and other relevant parties.
• Reviewing contractors’ scopes of work, quotations and costs to ensure they are appropriate.
• Ensuring all surveying assessments, reports and recommendations are accurate, practical and commercially appropriate.

Experience:

• MRICS/FRICS qualified in Building Surveying
• Experience working with both domestic and commercial properties.
• Previous experience within insurance, loss adjusting, claims, or property-related roles.
• Strong knowledge of building construction, defects, property damage and repair methods.
• Experience producing technical reports, specifications, schedules of work and cost assessments.
• A good understanding of the insurance claims process and how policy cover can impact repair decisions.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to deal confidently with policyholders, insurers, contractors and other stakeholders.
• The ability to work independently, manage your own workload and provide clear, well-informed technical advice.
• A willingness to travel to different claim sites when required.
