At AECOM, we're delivering a better world. Whether improving your commute, keeping the lights on, providing access to clean water, or transforming skylines, our work helps people and communities thrive. We are the world's trusted infrastructure consulting firm, partnering with clients to solve the world’s most complex challenges and build legacies for future generations.

AECOM has an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Compliance & Permitting Consultant to join our UK & Ireland EHS Team within the Environment and Energy business at consultant grade. You will play a key role in supporting the growth and continued success of the Environmental Permitting business in the UK and Ireland.

Based within a specialist team but working as part of the wider AECOM business, you would provide environmental compliance and permitting support across all industry sectors, through a combination of global framework agreements and site specific commissions. You would support AECOM’s clients from established process industries, manufacturing and power generation companies with the management of compliance requirements for current and planned activities. AECOM is also helping to shape the development of good compliance practice for the transition to a low carbon economy.

This role would suit a consultant with some post qualified experience in environmental compliance and permitting, some health and safety experience and knowledge of ISO 14001 standards would also be beneficial.

As our EHS & Remediation team covers UK & I, and as we support hybrid working, we are flexible in terms of base location. This position can be based from our offices in Birmingham, Chesterfield, Leeds, Manchester or Nottingham.

Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Environmental Permitting: Deliver Environmental Permit applications, variations, transfers, and surrenders for a variety of clients across the UK and Ireland.
  • Environmental Assessment & Risk Management: Conduct environmental risk assessments to identify potential environmental impacts and risks. Develop and implement mitigation measures and management plans to minimise impacts and enhance performance.
  • Compliance & Regulatory Advisory: Advise clients on the implications of legislation, regulatory guidance, and Best Available Techniques (BAT). Ensure client compliance with relevant environmental legislation, best practice, and BAT standards.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration: Support clients in regulator and stakeholder engagement. Work collaboratively with EHS colleagues and the wider Environment team to deliver robust assessments.
  • Environmental Auditing: Carry out environmental audits, including assessments of legal compliance.

Qualifications:

Ready to push the limits of what’s possible? Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • Education: A base first degree or equivalent qualification in an engineering or science discipline.
  • Experience: Demonstrable experience in an industrial or consultancy role. A strong track record in successfully delivering Environmental Permitting compliance services and preparing the associated documentation.
  • Technical Knowledge: Extensive working knowledge of relevant UK National and European environmental legislation.
  • Skills: Excellent report writing, technical reviewing, and communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team across a range of projects, including those with tight deadlines.
  • Personal Attributes: Proactive and positive attitude with strong team collaboration skills. Confident in liaising with colleagues, industrial clients, and regulators.
