Who are VitalHub?

VitalHub aspire to accelerate the delivery of digital transformation at scale, supporting healthcare organisations internationally to improve how they capture and analyse data. This helps enhance patient flow and enables better coordination of care across planned and unplanned services, mental health, workforce, and compliance. From patient-facing apps and in-hospital flow management to national system control centres supporting the provision of healthcare services across US, UK, Canada, Middle East & Australia, our solutions exist to deliver an eco-system of joined-up technical infrastructure and centralised data integration.

The Opportunity:

The Senior Cloud Engineer will work in the Cloud department that is responsible for the design, evolution, and operation of VitalHub's UK cloud platforms and DevOps capabilities. The role will work on infrastructure, deployment pipelines, and operational tooling including designing, implementing, and improving them over time. The role will help ensure systems are stable, secure, recoverable, and cost-effective across the full product lifecycle.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the design, evolution, and operation of cloud platforms and DevOps capabilities across the UK product portfolio, covering infrastructure, deployment pipelines, and operational tooling.
  • Contribute to the technical direction for cloud architecture, including environment structure, network topology, identity and access models, and shared platform services, in alignment with global cloud teams.
  • Support the development and promotion of standards and reference approaches for infrastructure as code, configuration management, and environment provisioning, ensuring repeatability and auditability.
  • Design, implement, and improve DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, release and deployment strategies, environment promotion, and change management.
  • Ensure cloud platforms and CI/CD pipelines are secure and resilient, working with DevSecOps and InfoSec on access controls, secrets management, network security, and pipeline hardening.
  • Maintain robust foundations for stability and recovery, including disaster recovery strategy, RTO/RPO definitions, runbooks, and regular recovery testing.
  • Manage cloud cost through informed architectural decisions, capacity planning, scaling strategies, and service selection, using cost data to guide trade-offs rather than enforcing blanket controls.
  • Promote transparency and visibility of cloud costs back into teams working on the products.
  • Mentor and coach other members of the team to improve their skills and promote best practices.
  • Work closely with engineering teams to ensure deployment, monitoring, and operational approaches align with application architecture and how systems are built and maintained.
  • Work collaboratively, explaining technical decisions clearly and bringing teams along through support, guidance, and shared ownership rather than enforcement.

Essential Experience:

  • Experience with developing and maintaining Infrastructure-as-Code (terraform etc.) to a high standard.
  • Experience with deploying and maintaining workloads in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure).
  • Comfortable working directly with engineering teams in a collaborative approach.
  • Experience with DevOps tooling and processes (ci/cd pipelines, observability and reliability).
  • Networking knowledge.

Nice to Haves:

  • Comfortable in working in an environment with variety and sometimes being air dropped into new areas to help with projects/issues.
  • Experience with containerisation.
  • Experience with working in the hosting of SaaS applications.
  • Experience with running cloud at scale.
  • Able to coach and mentor others to impart skills and best practices.
  • Working on previous transformation projects (cloud migrations, workload modernisations, DevOps transformations).
