We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established business operating within the veterinary sector for an experienced Interim Managing Director to join on a 6-month part-time contract.
The role involves providing day-to-day leadership and strategic direction to a small, dedicated team delivering specialist services to veterinary practices.

With no physical premises, the team works remotely and travels to client sites across the region.

The
Role: Reporting to the Board of Directors (via the Chair), the Interim Managing Director will oversee the effective running of the business, support the team, and ensure alignment with the company's goals and values.
This flexible, part-time role (approx. 14 hours per week) suits someone with strong leadership and operational management experience, particularly within veterinary, healthcare, or service-based sectors.
You'll be primarily home-based, with regular travel for team meetings and on-site engagement across the North of England.
Key
Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day leadership and line management for all team members
- Oversee staffing matters including recruitment, retention, and performance (with support from an external HR provider)
- Support the team to stay aligned with strategic objectives and company values
- Monitor financial performance and liaise with the finance manager and accountants
- Prepare and present regular updates and reports to the Board
- Oversee core operational functions, including health & safety and IT support (external providers in place)
- Support logistics and ensure effective coordination of services
- Work closely with the Chair and Board to implement business plans, budgets, and reporting frameworks
- Maintain organisational structure and support clear communication across the team
Some aspects of the role may be delegated to the wider team, depending on your background and availability:
- Marketing, brand awareness, and client engagement
- Oversight of equipment sourcing and servicing
ABOUT YOU
- Previous experience in a senior leadership or operational role
- Strong people management and team-building skills
- Financial awareness and the ability to work within budgets and strategic plans
- A practical, hands-on approach combined with clear, values-led decision making
- Familiarity with remote team management and flexible working environments
