We're on a mission to make money work for everyone. We're waving goodbye to the complicated and confusing ways of traditional banking. After starting as a prepaid card, our product offering has grown a lot in the last 10 years in the UK. As well as personal and business bank accounts, we offer joint accounts, accounts for 16-17 year olds, a free kids account and credit cards in the UK, with more exciting things to come beyond. Our UK customers can also save, invest and combine their pensions with us. With our hot coral cards and get-paid-early feature, combined with financial education on social media and our award winning customer service, we have a long history of creating magical moments for our customers! We're not about selling products - we want to solve problems and change lives through Monzo.

The Monzo research team wants to change the game when it comes to finding what we already know, proactively surfacing what we should know, and detecting emerging themes we ought to explore. We're looking for a strategic knowledge manager who can work with us to strengthen our knowledge building muscle as Monzo continues to expand.

The Monzo research team is currently made up of around 30 User Researchers, who spend most of their time embedded in multi-discipline teams focusing on different areas, like Wealth products, or Borrowing products. We also have a growing research leadership team. You'll work closely with our Research Operations Lead to futureproof the impact Monzo's research has on product development and overall company direction as we scale. While the tooling and technical data management aspects of this project are key, the scope extends into the cultural and community aspects of enabling all of Monzo to get more out of our existing insights and data.

You'll play a key role by:

  • Evaluating our research knowledge estate thoroughly (from the raw data, qual and quant, to reports and literature reviews) including relevant tooling and repositories, and how research is used across the organisation.
  • Identifying an operating model for research knowledge management at Monzo that will scale and meet identified user needs.
  • Creating the conditions for this model to be successful now and in future (scaling across markets, as well as growth and future needs).
  • Defining how the data should be structured and catalogued to make it reusable and referenceable (including but not limited to metadata, taxonomies, etc).
  • Defining a plan to update existing data.
  • Identifying and setting up tooling and/or integrations as needed.
  • Defining the rituals and cadences for building shared understanding.
  • Implementing the knowledge management operating model - launching and supporting, training all users, iterating based on initial feedback.
  • Futureproofing - setting up required rituals and checks for maintenance and updates.
  • Handing the system over to the research team - identifying and empowering champion users to not only maintain the system but also to use it to promote research insights, make connections, and engage with stakeholders to surface relevant research - an amplifier role that becomes especially critical in planning cycles.

We'd love to hear from you if:

  • You're familiar with / have worked with user research or market research teams, and existing research repository structures and tooling.
  • You've worked as an archivist, librarian, knowledge manager, content designer or information architect - you're adept at managing unstructured data, making sense of any mess.
  • You've got demonstrable experience in automating knowledge workflows, integrating data streams.
  • Experienced with leveraging LLMs and generative AI in structuring and surfacing knowledge.
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills.
  • Experienced in delivering transformation.

Not ticking every box? That's totally okay! Studies show that women and people of colour might hesitate to apply unless they meet every single requirement. At Monzo, we're dedicated to creating a diverse and welcoming team. If you're passionate about this role and keen to learn and grow with us, we encourage you to apply— even if you don't have everything that's listed just yet. Drop us your application, we'd love to hear from you!

What's in it for you:

  • £89,000 - £120,000 + benefits.
  • This role can be based in our London office, but we're open to distributed working within the UK (with ad hoc meetings in London).
  • We offer flexible working hours and trust you to work enough hours to do your job well, and at times that suit you and your team.
  • £1,000 learning budget each year to use on books, training courses and conferences.
  • We will set you up to work from home; all employees are given Macbooks and for fully remote workers we will provide extra support for your work-from-home setup.

The application journey has 3 key steps:

  • An introduction call with our recruiter Natalie (30 mins).
  • A technical 'craft' presentation and interview (60 mins).
  • A teamwork and impact interview (45 mins).

Diversity and inclusion are a priority for us and we're making sure we have lots of support for all of our people to grow at Monzo. At Monzo, we're embracing diversity by fostering an inclusive environment for all people to do the best work of their lives with us. This is integral to our mission of making money work for everyone. We're an equal opportunity employer. All applicants will be considered for employment without attention to age, ethnicity, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, family or parental status, national origin, or veteran, neurodiversity or disability status.
