Lead delivery of transportation engineering schemes for a dynamic team of civil engineering professionals. Responsible for managing project lifecycles, coordinating interdisciplinary teams, and supporting wider AECOM operations across the UK, Ireland, and overseas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Anticipate project and operational requirements, proactively identifying and resolving routine and complex issues.
  • Oversee full lifecycle delivery of highway, public transport, and active travel projects—including feasibility, conceptual design, detailed engineering, community engagement, and construction management.
  • Appoint and manage competent discipline lead engineers, ensuring high quality technical delivery.
  • Plan and develop engineering tasks, define scope, and introduce novel concepts and approaches through technical exploration.
  • Provide technical expertise across all project phases, from conceptual stages to implementation.
  • Ensure quality by reviewing technical reports, deliverables, and compliance with project briefs.
  • Lead health, safety, and wellness initiatives, maintaining a safe working environment in line with AECOM policies.
  • Monitor financial performance and act as Project Manager upon accreditation on AECOM’s project management system.
  • Monitor and develop team skill sets, support professional progression toward Chartered Engineer status.
  • Build client relationships and identify commercial opportunities, preparing proposals, client briefs, and fee proposals.
  • Collaborate with internal teams across planning, streets, structures, infrastructure, water, power, and landscape to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Support marketing and business development objectives regionally and nationally.

Qualifications

  • Track record of involvement in preliminary, detailed design, or construction phases of civil engineering, infrastructure, or transportation projects.
  • Demonstrable experience and understanding of high‑quality technical delivery within an infrastructure or civil engineering sector.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with clients, team members, and industry peers.
  • Interest and ability to mentor and develop a team.
  • Actively seeking to transition into or expand within the transportation area, with a focus on project lifecycle delivery.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant degree and Chartered status, or on track to achieve Chartered status shortly.
  • Membership of a professional institution.
  • Experience leading significant packages on major transportation projects.
