As Analyst/Programmer (called Design Consultant at Target) you will be focused on solving our business critical challenges with a combination of technical, industry and business acumen.
Utilising your key skills you will design software solutions that not only deliver on our client's requirements but also drive forward Targets technical roadmap.
The role is primarily remote, however you may be asked to attend our Cardiff or Newport office when required.
What does the role of Design Consultant look like day to day?
- Using IBM i Series (AS/400) to design high quality, scalable, secure and resilient software solutions for Target and the requirements of its existing or future clients.
- Utilise effective design capability that can be articulated to clients and internal teams for the development of proposed solutions.
- Sit on the internal Design Authority Board (DAB) and review proposed designs to ensure compliance with the agreed terms of reference for Targets technical strategy.
- Play a key role in Targets modernisation by utilising your skills and knowledge of the IT industry to shape solutions.
- Communicate design decisions, plans, goals and strategies to project teams and senior leadership.
- Research, investigate, propose and introduce new technologies/third party applications to ensure Target remains relevant within the market.
- Utilise Product, Industry & System knowledge to support the Solution Architect by designing components of the High Level Solution.
- Articulate solution designs to software engineering teams to facilitate low level design.
- Act as the technical design authority in project delivery, working with technical leads to ensure that the requirements of the solution are implemented in full
- Provide product, system and industry guidance to the project team.
- Support the Change project governance process, Design Solution Owner Group and Change SDLC
- Working closely with Sales, Bid and Commercial teams, providing product and technical knowledge support to the bid process.
- Support the Solution Architect for all Bid opportunities you are allocated.
- Owning the process of engagement with all areas of the business and articulating the proposed solution design.
- Providing design estimates for new functional components.
The successful candidate will have experience in the following areas
- Subject matter expert within Financial Servicing (Lending and/or Investments)
- Client facing experience
- Presentation experience
- Security by Design
- Experience of designing to standards and utilising industry patterns
- AS400 / i Series experience
