A specialist independent building services consultancy is expanding and urgently needs a high‑end intermediate/senior design engineer to join their Birmingham office. Hybrid remote working is available. The firm works across a broad range of sectors including general commercial, high‑end residential, educational, health and MOD projects.
As a mechanical design engineer you will be expected to provide effective designs, conduct surveys, prepare feasibility reports, specifications, provide site supervision and manage the installation of mechanical services. Applicants should ideally hold an HND level qualification and have at least two years of UK building services design experience, with a demonstrable UK building services background.
Responsibilities- Design calculations using industry leading software.
- Assist in preparing reports such as feasibility studies, design reports, specifications and contract administration.
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of current standards and legislation.
- Attend site surveys and client meetings.
- Implement technical standards and support business development; ensure compliance with CDM Regulations.
- Undertake detailed site surveys and design reviews.
- Provide clear engineering systems reporting for both mechanical and electrical disciplines during meetings.
- Handle contract administration, project management and site supervision/inspections; assist with financial control of projects in liaison with the Project Director.
- Mentor and assist graduate engineers.
- Preferably some Revit MEP experience.
- Some experience of IES modelling software is advantageous (but not essential).
- Ideally some understanding of BIM Level 2 and BIM project deliverables structure; training will be provided if required.
- Work mechanical designs from inception to completion, often within tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy and quality.
- CEng qualified or working towards CEng.
- Appropriate membership of professional bodies, e.g. CIBSE, IMECHE, IET.
- Full UK driving licence.
