Their in‑house capabilities include substation electrical design, switchgear installation, earthing systems, and full turnkey project delivery. Role Overview You’ll be the lead in designing HV infrastructure—from early concept through detailed engineering—for substations and power distribution systems. Your work supports the delivery teams to ensure practical, safe, compliant, and cost-effective execution. Key Responsibilities * Develop primary HV designs up to 400 kV, including: * Substation layouts and equipment clearances (switchgear, transformers, busbars) * Earthing and lightning protection systems * Cable routing and terminations * Produce technical documentation: * Single-line diagrams, schematics, and GA drawings * Equipment specifications and material schedules * Conduct power systems analysis: * Load flow, fault level, protection coordination, voltage regulation * Coordinate with internal teams (civil, SCADA, protection & control) and external bodies (DNOs, National Grid) * Mentor and review work from junior engineers * Support site installation, factory acceptance testing (FAT), and commissioning phases * Ensure compliance with relevant standards * Contribute to tendering, proposals, and client presentations Required Qualifications & Experience * BEng or MEng in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) * Minimum 5 years’ experience in HV design (33kv–400 kV), ideally within utility, contractor, or consultancy environments * Strong foundational knowledge of power systems and HV components * Experience with DNO/NG interfaces, protection coordination, earthing design * Valid UK driving licence Health & Safety * Must compile RAMS and site safety documentation * Possess or be willing to obtain ECS, SMSTS/NEBOSH/IOSH credentials
