The Research Administrator will support the delivery of research within General Practice across Somerset by providing high-quality administrative and coordination support. The role involves working closely with GP practices, research teams, and external partners to help ensure studies are set up and delivered efficiently, with accurate record keeping and effective communication across all stakeholders.

We are looking for someone with:

Main duties of the job:

  • Provide day to day administrative coordination of approved research studies within General Practice
  • Support study feasibility assessments, setup activities and associated administrative processes
  • Maintain a central log of feasibility requests and manage initial correspondence with sponsors and practices
  • Act as a key point of contact between practice teams, sponsors, CROs, GPSU, Research Delivery Alliance, ICB and agile research teams
  • Support effective communication and information sharing across all stakeholders
  • Assist with sharing agreed searches, guidance and best practice from other participating practices

Job responsibilities:

  • Research Support: Support with the feasibility, set‑up and any supportive administrative processes of approved research studies within the practice. Assist with sharing agreed searches and guidance from other practices undertaking the same studies. If required, co‑ordinate external visits or virtual meetings and attend if needed to document relevant information for the practice team. Support communication between sponsors, CROs and practice teams/agile teams. Act as a point of contact between all key stakeholders to manage communication, coordination and be responsive to the needs of practice teams who might need additional support. Maintain a central log of feasibility requests and support initial correspondence with sponsors and practice teams. Undertake general administrative tasks related to research activity as directed to promote and support research activity across General Practice sites.
  • Staff Support: Act as a first point of contact for administrative queries supporting administration and practice managers. Support clinicians and nurses with the practical organisation with any research administration activity if required. Promote awareness of research within General Practice in Somerset with key colleagues. Support the Research Delivery Alliance steering group with administrative assistance.
  • Administration and Data Handling: Accurately enter and update data on study databases and practice systems if required. Maintain confidential handling of information.
  • Governance and Compliance: Work within established protocols, SOPs and Good Clinical Practice principles. Support monitoring visits, audits and reporting as required. Escalate any issues or concerns to senior staff promptly. Assist with preparation for audit and inspections if required.
  • Team Working: Work collaboratively with the wider practice team. Liaise with external research teams and NIHR Clinical Research Network staff as directed.

Person Specification:

  • Personal Qualities: Reliable and well organised. Friendly and professional manner. Able to follow instructions and procedures. Willing to learn and develop within the role.
  • Qualifications: GCSEs (or equivalent), including English and Maths. Willingness to complete Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training. NVQ Level 3 in Business Administration, Health, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: Experience in an administrative or support role, preferably in healthcare. Good organisational skills and attention to detail. Ability to communicate clearly and courteously with patients and staff. Basic IT skills, including Microsoft Office. Understanding of confidentiality and data protection. Experience working in Primary care or community setting. Awareness of clinical research or audit activity. Experience using clinical systems such as EMIS.
