Nursing Delivery Lead for Health Checks & Phlebotomy – £27 - 35 per hour

Location: Rhyl

Shift Pattern: Monday–Friday 07:50–18:10; Saturday – No scheduled appointments, may be introduced further on; Sunday 10:50–15:55

Start date: January 2027

Responsibilities

  • Re-confirm participant details before commencement of appointment
  • Complete height, weight and waist measurements; take heart rate and blood pressure checks and input result data into the system
  • Draw the two blood samples, label and store correctly in fixed and mobile locations
  • Check the welfare of the participant throughout the appointment, escalating as required
  • Offer signposting, advice and guidance to participants as relevant
  • Prepare boxes containing samples to be collected by the courier
  • Provision of clinical leadership to Healthcare Support Workers
  • Focus on day‑to‑day delivery of excellence in quality care provision, ensuring all clinical governance and compliance targets are met, services are safe and delivered seamlessly
  • Supernumerary role which can provide additional support for HSW breaks
  • Responsible for staff attendance and scheduling
  • Report directly to Chief Nurse
  • First point of escalation for operational queries

Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year’s active experience drawing blood (validated through competency checklist and references)

Background

  • Service runs Monday to Sunday, six days per week, linked to laboratory opening hours, open 07:50–18:10 to ensure maximum accessibility for participants
  • Service delivered across various regions in Northern Ireland, Wales & Scotland via mobile vehicle services
  • Each appointment is 15 minutes, including confirming identity, obtaining consent, completing tests (blood pressure, heart rate x2, height, weight, waist circumference) and obtaining venous blood draw (2 x 6 ml EDTA samples)
  • Providing participants with information based on tests undertaken (where applicable)
