Pay: £21.95 / hr PAYE or £28 / hr Outside IR35

Sector: Defence

Hours: Monday to Thursday rotating Days 6am-4pm and Nights 8pm-6am (x6 roles available), Weekends Friday to Sunday 6am-6pm (x3 roles available)

Role Overview: MTL Advanced are looking for experienced Weld Inspectors to support onsite inspection activities across defence manufacturing programmes. These are hands-on roles within a busy fabrication and manufacturing environment, ensuring weld quality, compliance to standards, and supporting NDT activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct visual weld inspections (VT) in line with relevant standards (e.g. ISO 5817, BS EN standards)
  • Support or perform NDT activities (dependent on certification scope e.g. MT, PT, UT)
  • Record and report inspection results in line with QA documentation requirements
  • Identify defects, escalate non-conformances, and support corrective actions
  • Work closely with production and quality teams to ensure compliance with defence standards
  • Maintain accurate inspection records and traceability

Essential Requirements:

  • Level 2 Weld Inspection certification (CSWIP 3.1 or equivalent)
  • MPI (Magnetic Particle Inspection) and Dye Pen (Dye Penetrant Inspection/LPI) ticket (certification)
  • Demonstrable hands-on welding experience (fabrication / heavy engineering preferred)
  • Experience in NDT inspection methods (minimum exposure required; certification advantageous)
  • Background working in regulated industries (defence, aerospace, nuclear, heavy engineering)
  • Strong understanding of weld standards, tolerances, and defect identification

Compliance Requirements:

  • UK Citizenship (essential - defence project)
  • BPSS clearance (or ability to obtain immediately)
