We are looking for a skilled Instrumentation Technician to support the installation, calibration, maintenance, and refurbishment of specialist instrumentation equipment used within prototype vehicle programmes. This is a hands-on role where you will work closely with engineering teams to fit bespoke measurement and data acquisition systems to vehicles and test rigs, supporting the delivery of innovative vehicle development projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support Instrumentation Engineers with the installation of temperature, pressure, displacement, load, voltage/current, flow, speed, and data acquisition systems.
  • Install specialist harnesses and instrumentation equipment onto prototype vehicles and test rigs.
  • Support prototype vehicle build activities and reactive instrumentation work.
  • Fabricate and modify bespoke brackets, fixtures, and fittings to support instrumentation installation.
  • Assist with instrumentation sign-off activities on completed vehicles.
  • Record instrumentation data and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Carry out instrumentation removal, repair, refurbishment, and fault diagnosis activities.
  • Work collaboratively with wider engineering and build teams to ensure project deadlines are achieved.

What We're Looking For

  • Essential:
  • City & Guilds, NVQ, IMI qualification, or equivalent in an engineering-related discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in a relevant technical role.
  • Strong electrical and mechanical fitting skills.
  • Experience working with chassis and powertrain systems.
  • Ability to fabricate minor brackets, jigs, and fixtures.
  • Good understanding of whole vehicle systems.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair vehicle faults.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Flexibility to support overtime and changing business requirements.
  • Ability to ensure work is completed within agreed timescales whilst maintaining high standards of quality and productivity.
  • Desirable:
  • Previous experience within prototype vehicle operations.
  • Experience working with data acquisition systems and vehicle instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of calibration processes and measurement equipment.
