Are you an experienced low-voltage electronics engineer ready to lead innovation in 12V/24V power systems, battery charging, and industrial control electronics within a growing UK manufacturer? We are partnering with a specialist manufacturer in South Gloucestershire seeking an Engineering Manager to take ownership of their low-voltage battery charging and DC power systems. This is a high-impact, hands-on engineering leadership role for someone who understands real-world electronics design and isn't afraid to challenge and improve how things are done.

What's on offer:

  • £50,000 - £70,000 per annum (DOE)
  • Hybrid working options
  • Company pension scheme
  • 24 days holiday + bank holidays
  • Clear progression pathway to senior leadership / Director level
  • Opportunity to shape product strategy and engineering direction

The business

Our client is a specialist UK manufacturer with a long-standing reputation in low-voltage DC power systems, battery charging technology, and industrial electronics. Since the 1980s, they have evolved alongside developments in 12V/24V systems, supporting applications across automotive auxiliary systems, telecoms backup power, mobility, industrial equipment, and specialist battery-powered systems. Unlike high-voltage EV OEM environments, this business focuses on practical, embedded, and applied low-voltage engineering solutions, combining standard and bespoke product development with servicing, repair, and long-term customer support. This is a close-knit SME environment where engineers have real influence over product direction and technical decisions.

The role

You will be the technical authority for low-voltage battery charging and DC power systems, leading product development and improving engineering performance across design, manufacturing, and field applications. This role is both hands-on and strategic - you'll own the product roadmap while actively solving real engineering problems. You will also play a key role in shaping the future of the engineering team, including capability development and succession planning.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead development of 12V/24V battery chargers and low-voltage power systems
  • Drive innovation in battery charging, recovery, and DC power management
  • Own and evolve the product roadmap for low-voltage electronics solutions
  • Improve design for manufacture, testing, and product reliability
  • Troubleshoot and resolve real-world issues across design, production, and field use
  • Mentor and develop engineers within a growing technical team
  • Support long-term succession planning and engineering leadership growth

What we're looking for:

  • Strong background in low-voltage electronics (12V/24V DC systems) or power electronics
  • Experience in areas such as:
  • Battery chargers (industrial / commercial / specialist applications)
  • DC power systems
  • UPS systems (low-voltage / industrial)
  • Embedded power electronics
  • Non-HV EV auxiliary systems (not main traction HV systems)
  • Hands-on engineering experience (design, development, or applied R&D)
  • Practical, problem-solving mindset with attention to real-world application
  • Experience in a manufacturing, SME, or product engineering environment
  • Leadership experience or readiness to step into a technical leadership role
  • Ambition to progress into a future Director-level position
  • Ideal background

This role is particularly well suited to engineers from:

    • Low-voltage electronics manufacturers
    • Industrial battery charging companies
    • DC power supply / embedded power systems firms
    • Specialist engineering SMEs working on 12V/24V systems
