Are you an experienced Paint Quality Engineer with a strong background in automotive paint processes and appearance standards? We are seeking a hands-on professional to support a high-performance automotive manufacturer in delivering flawless paint quality across premium vehicle production. This is a full-time, on-site opportunity at their Woking facility, working closely with production, engineering, and quality teams to reduce defects, optimise processes, and ensure the highest customer-visible finish. This role requires full-time on-site presence (5 days per week) to support fast-paced production and shop-floor quality activities.

Role Overview
The Paint Quality Engineer will take ownership of paint quality performance, focusing on defect reduction, root cause analysis, corrective action implementation, and continuous improvement. You will work hands-on on the shop floor, ensuring that exterior and interior components meet the highest visual standards while keeping processes audit-ready. Collaboration with Production, Manufacturing Quality, Engineering, and Compliance teams will be key to resolving appearance issues and supporting new model introductions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own paint quality performance for assigned models, workstations, or processes
- Monitor, analyse, and eliminate defects with the highest FPV impact
- Lead root-cause investigations using 5-Why, Ishikawa, 8D, or DMAIC
- Implement containment, corrective, and preventative actions to reduce rework and polishing
- Maintain work instructions, PFMEAs, and inspection guides with clear ownership
- Support new materials, colours, substrates, and paint systems introductions
- Analyse defect trends (FPV, FTT/RFT) and provide actionable insights
- Maintain audit-ready documentation aligned to internal and external standards
Essential Experience:
- Proven experience in automotive paint quality (OEM, Tier 1, or high-end bodyshop)
- Hands-on experience reducing defects and rework through structured problem solving
- Strong shop-floor presence and practical troubleshooting skills
- Knowledge of paint technologies (water/solvent-based, clearcoat, composite substrates)
- Proficient with quality tools: 8D, 5-Why, Ishikawa, SPC, PFMEA
- Familiar with metrology tools (DOI, orange peel, spectral analysis) and appearance standards
- Ability to translate technical specifications into practical shop-floor actions
- Must have the independent right to work in the UK (no sponsorship available)
