A Practice Manager oversees the smooth daily running of a healthcare practice, ensuring high-quality patient care and efficient operations. They manage staff, budgets, compliance, and administration while supporting clinical teams and improving patient experience. Main duties of the job
- Work collaboratively with GP Partners and the Operational Manager to oversee day‑to‑day practice operations.
- Support strategic and operational management of practice services.
- Support staff management, recruitment, induction, appraisals, and HR processes.
- Ensure compliance with NHS Wales, Health Board, contractual, HIW, GDPR, and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate clinical and administrative rotas, ensuring safe and efficient staffing levels.
- Plan and coordinate GP and nursing clinics to optimise capacity and patient access.
- Maintain high standards of patient care, patient safety and service delivery.
- Liaise with external organisations including Hywel Dda University Health Board, Cluster Network colleagues, community services, universities and other stakeholders.
- Support quality improvement initiatives, Enhanced Services, QOF delivery, audits and practice development.
- Work confidently with EMIS Web and support effective use of digital systems and workflows.
- Coordinate and oversee medical student placements, including induction, scheduling, supervision arrangements and liaison with educational bodies.
- Oversee significant event reporting, complaints management, safeguarding processes and incident handling in line with NHS Wales guidance.
- Support implementation of Welsh Government and Health Board primary care initiatives.
- Ensure policies, protocols and risk assessments are maintained and reviewed.
- Coordinate infection prevention and control, health and safety and business continuity arrangements.
- Support multidisciplinary team working and foster a positive, collaborative team culture.
- Monitor and improve patient access, workflow systems and administrative efficiency.
- Attend practice, cluster and Health Board meetings where required.
- Support workforce development and staff training coordination.
- Maintain confidentiality and information governance standards at all times.

Coalbrook Surgery is in the village of Pontyberem, equidistant from the towns of Carmarthen and Llanelli and is part of the Amman Gwendraeth Cluster. It is a well‑established, friendly practice, currently consisting of three GP Partners who are supported by an excellent nursing team and an enthusiastic, competent administrative team.

Qualifications
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths (usually minimum requirement).
- A-levels or Level 3 qualifications (often preferred but not always required).

Experience
- Proven experience in a Practice Manager role within primary care (GP surgery setting).
- Strong knowledge of NHS primary care systems and structures.
- Understanding of CQC regulations and compliance requirements.
- Experience with EMIS (desirable).
- Experience managing GP practice operations, staff, and patient services.
- Strong leadership skills with experience supervising multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent organisational, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
