Pendre surgery is a thriving GMS Practice situated in Holywell, Flintshire, North Wales. We are the only Investors in People (IIP) accredited GP practice in North Wales and were shortlisted for the UK company of the year 2022 award. We have just over 10,600 patients registered at the Surgery and have 4 GP Partners who provide personalised patient care and who are supported by 2 salaried doctors, 3 Advanced Nurse Practitioners, 3 Practice Nurses, 2 Healthcare Assistants as well as a skilled dispensing team.
We are looking to recruit a registered nurse to join our well established, friendly and very busy practice. The post is a minimum of 24 hours per week over 3 days. GP based experience would be an advantage but not essential as training and development would be given to the right candidate. Experience in smears and some experience in chronic disease management as well as immunisations is desirable but not essential as training will be given. The suitable candidate must be computer literate, organised with good time management, motivated, adaptable and enthusiastic as well as being able to work autonomously. The successful candidate must also be an active team player and flexible to work within a friendly nursing team.
Salary negotiable - depending on experience. Simply Health Private Cash Plan Scheme. 27 days holiday (whole time hours) - plus bank holidays pro-rata.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will carry continuing responsibility for the assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care and also setting standards of nursing care within the practice.
Formal Qualification(s) required to fulfil the duties of this post:
- 1st level Registered Nurse with at least 2 years experience at Band 6 or above, within Community/Practice Nursing or can show adequate knowledge of Primary Care.
- Experience required in chronic disease management, diabetes and cervical screening.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Take a lead role in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care of patients within the practice population.
- Ensure high standards of care are provided to all patients who have contact with the nursing team and take appropriate action when agreed standards are not met.
- In conjunction with other members of the Primary Care Team, assist in the development of guidelines and protocols for managing practice population.
- Participate in research and assist with audits/clinical trials within the practice.
- Liaise with all members of the primary health care team and other agencies (such as local authority social services) in order to assure appropriate care is provided for the practice population.
- Participate in the induction and training of new staff/student nurses.
- Participate in the teaching of students, Health Care Assistants and qualified staff.
The post holder will be expected to adhere to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and has responsibility to familiarise themselves with the Health and Safety at Work Act, ensuring the welfare and safety of staff and patients within the practice environment.
The Practice reserves the right after appropriate consultation with you, to vary your duties and responsibilities within the parameters of your grade and occupational competence in order to respond to changes in the needs of the Practice.

You are responsible for limiting your actions to those that you feel competent to undertake. If you have any doubts about your competence during the course of your duties you should immediately speak to your line manager/supervisor.
Registered Health Professional
All employees of the practice who are required to register with a professional body, to enable them to practice with their profession, are required to comply with their code of conduct and requirements of their professional registration.
It is a standard element of the role and responsibility of all practice staff that they fulfil a proactive role towards the management of risk in all their actions. This entails the risk assessment of all situations, the taking of appropriate actions and reporting of all incidents, near misses and hazards.
Records Management
As an employee of the practice, you are legally responsible for all records that you gather, create or use as part of your work within the practice (including patient health, financial, personal and administrative), whether paper or computer based. All such records are considered public records, and you have a legal duty of confidence to service users (even after the employee has left the practice employment). You should consult your line manager as to the correct management of records with which you work.
Health & Safety Requirements
All employees of the practice have a statutory duty of care for their own personal safety and that of others who may be affected by their acts or omissions. Employees are required to co-operate with management to enable the practice to meet its own legal duties and to report any hazardous situations or defective equipment.

- Venepuncture skills are essential.
- Clinical skills - wound care, immunisation and administration of injections, ear examination, ECGs, urinalysis.

- Knowledge of needs of patients with long-term conditions.
- Management of long-term health conditions - desirable.
- Knowledge of health promotion strategies.
- Understanding of clinical governance in primary care.
