GP Automate is a growing business committed to operational excellence and financial rigour. We are looking for a detail‑oriented and proactive Management Accountant to join our finance function. This is a hands‑on role that sits at the heart of the business, supporting the Fractional Finance Director / Head of Finance with a broad range of financial and operational tasks.

Purpose of the Role

The Management Accountant will be responsible for the day‑to‑day financial operations of GP Automate, ensuring that financial processes are executed accurately, on time, and in line with best practice. The role provides critical financial insight and operational support across payroll, client payments, reconciliations, cash flow management, and budgeting.

Key Responsibilities

Management Accounts & Reporting

  • Prepare monthly management accounts, including profit & loss, balance sheet, and variance analysis.
  • Produce clear, concise commentary on financial performance for the Finance Director and senior leadership.
  • Maintain and improve financial reporting processes and templates.
  • Support month‑end and year‑end close processes.

Payroll

  • Manage the end‑to‑end payroll process, ensuring timely and accurate payment to all employees.
  • Liaise with HR on starters, leavers, and changes to employee remuneration.
  • Ensure compliance with HMRC requirements, including PAYE, NI, and pension submissions.
  • Resolve payroll queries promptly and professionally.

Client Payments & Accounts Receivable

  • Oversee the processing and tracking of client payments.
  • Raise and issue sales invoices accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Monitor aged debtors and follow up on outstanding balances.
  • Maintain strong client relationships with regard to billing and payment queries.

Reconciliations

  • Perform regular bank reconciliations and ensure all accounts are reconciled on a timely basis.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts monthly, investigating and resolving any discrepancies.
  • Support accounts payable reconciliations and supplier statement reviews.

Cashflow Management

  • Prepare and maintain weekly and monthly cashflow forecasts.
  • Monitor actual cash positions against forecasts and flag variances.
  • Support the Finance Director in managing working capital effectively.

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and periodic reforecasts.
  • Work with budget holders to gather inputs and challenge assumptions.
  • Track actuals against budget and provide meaningful analysis of variances.

Finance Operations & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date financial records in the accounting system.
  • Assist in the preparation of VAT returns and ensure timely submission.
  • Support the external audit process and liaise with auditors as required.
  • Identify and recommend improvements to financial controls and processes.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Part‑qualified or qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ACA) or QBE with relevant experience.

Experience

  • Proven experience in a similar management accounting or finance role.
  • Hands‑on experience with payroll processing and HMRC compliance.
  • Strong background in reconciliations, cashflow forecasting, and management reporting.
  • Experience working within an SME environment is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with working alongside or supporting a part‑time / fractional finance leader is a plus.

  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Commercially minded with a good understanding of business operations.
  • Confident communicator, able to liaise effectively with non‑finance stakeholders.
  • Proactive and self‑motivated – able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Excel / Google Sheets.
  • A collaborative team player who can also operate autonomously when required.
