About the role: We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Business Development, Marketing and Communications Manager to join our Business Development team to help drive Gowling WLG (UK) LLP’s international growth. Working closely with partners and the Business Development team, you will help build our international profile, strengthen cross-border relationships and turn client opportunities into action.

The role is split equally across two key areas. 50% will focus on firmwide international business development and marketing communications, connecting teams across jurisdictions, maximising cross-border client opportunities and optimising content, messaging and campaigns. The other 50% will support our international Intellectual Property practice, the firm’s most geographically diverse legal team. You will deliver local and global business development and marketing activity, develop plans that support the IP team’s business priorities, identify and activate client growth opportunities, encourage cross-border collaboration and manage key events.

Hands-on and highly collaborative, this role calls for strong commercial awareness, excellent stakeholder management and organisational skills, and a proactive approach to spotting and supporting new opportunities. Specialist support will be available across areas including events, digital and social media.

About you: We’re looking for someone with strong experience in international business development and marketing communications, ideally with an in-depth understanding of the Intellectual Property professional services market and the needs of clients operating within it. You’ll have a successful track record in business development within a legal and IP professional services environment, with the ability to think strategically and turn plans into action. You’ll be confident independently developing and delivering marketing campaigns, as well as identifying and pursuing business development opportunities through existing clients and your wider external network.

You’ll be commercially minded, with a strong understanding of the client’s world and the confidence to engage directly with clients and their representatives. Excellent people skills are essential, and you’ll be a natural networker and influencer who can quickly build trusted relationships, including with senior stakeholders and partners. Strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent drafting capability and first-class organisational and project management skills will be key. You’ll be comfortable balancing multiple priorities, managing demanding deadlines and taking a proactive, flexible approach when additional support is needed.

Above all, you’ll be a collaborative team player who champions the firm’s values, is willing to go the extra mile and is confident taking ownership of opportunities and driving activity forward.

What We Can Offer You: The opportunity to work for a firm that has been recognised as one of best places to work in the UK and has been ranked by Great Place to Work® for 26 consecutive years. Excellent benefits, including:

  • A hybrid approach to office and remote working.
  • 25 days annual leave, with the option to buy up to a week's extra annual leave.
  • Private medical insurance, and the option to add family members.
  • A generous pension allowance.
  • Life assurance covering four times your annual salary.
  • The chance of a three-month sabbatical every five years.
  • Maternity, paternity and adoption leave schemes.
  • A range of health and wellbeing programmes.
  • State of the art offices, with an onsite restaurant.
  • Opportunities to flourish in your role through training and personal development.

Equal Opportunities: Gowling WLG is committed both to promoting equality and diversity in the firm and to Equal Opportunities in employment. The firm believes in equality of opportunity regardless of race or racial group (including colour, nationality, ethnicity, national origins), religion or belief, age, disability, sexual orientation, sex, gender re-assignment and gender identity, marriage and civil partnership, and pregnancy, maternity and paternity.
