The Governors of this successful school wish to appoint a teacher of English to join a dynamic department to cover a 1 year maternity leave.

The English department is passionate about their subject and believe that learning should be engaging and lead to high levels of student attainment. Lessons are challenging and varied, with high standards of teaching and learning. Staff support each other, sharing ideas and resources and more experienced colleagues provide wide-ranging expertise, which is shared throughout the school.

The ideal candidate will be professional, enthusiastic and have the ability to motivate pupils so that ALL have the opportunity to achieve and progress. In return, Gowerton School offers a supportive, collaborative learning community for staff to develop as teachers and leaders. There are extensive CPD opportunities available in-house, through Partneriaeth and within the Swansea schools network.

We welcome applications from candidates who possess:

  • Excellent subject knowledge and the ability to work effectively as part of a team;
  • Can demonstrate a good working knowledge and experience of raising attainment at KS3 and KS4;
  • The ability to deliver engaging lessons that ensure suitable progress, independent learning, stretch and challenge using effective differentiation;
  • A good working knowledge of GCSE Specifications and the effective delivery of GCSE Language and Literature;
  • A good level of ICT skills;
  • A detailed knowledge of the curriculum and its means of delivery;
  • High standards of communication and interpersonal skills;
  • The ability to work as a team;
  • The ability to motivate both students and your peers.
