About the Role

Working with the Area Management team, you will develop and maintain a high performing team of train dispatch competent staff within a nominated group through effective application of all Southern competence and policy requirements.

Work with the local management team for the station groups to be a collaborative, on-sight and visible team working towards sharing increasing safety and productivity standards.

Further responsible for responding as first line on call response for operating incidents involving station staff, ensuring the safety of operational personnel and the incident. Undertake initial incident investigations, gather appropriate evidence, initiate alcohol and drugs screening as appropriate and provide associated reports and documentation in accordance with Company Procedures and Rail Group Standards.

Our team of CDMs cover the whole GTR network and will have on-call periods.

What You\’ll Need

Competency

  • Able to demonstrate and maintain competence in all station dispatch activities and show an ability to assess other staff in an objective, dispassionate and focusing on development.
  • Able to support other areas of the CD-O team with supporting assessments as and when required.

Qualifications

  • Train dispatch competence outside of the Post Qualified period (12 months) with no form of current or live development plan.
  • I.T skills – basic use of Microsoft Office, Teams and ability to learn other software as required
  • Basic report and email writing skills

Experience

  • Experience of operational role, must be a current train dispatch license holder, and ability to understand thoroughly how to manage the risks associated with dispatch activity and safety management.
  • Experience within an operational role for a minimum of 12 months.
  • Experience or understanding of coaching techniques in some format
  • General Management experience would be preferable
  • Excellent interviewing skills and techniques

The attainment of qualifications to perform the role fully may be supported for a defined period in your initial employment.
