What will you be doing?

School governors oversee the strategic management of a school and make decisions on various issues. Governing boards include representatives from the school, parents, local authority, and community.

The core responsibilities include:

  1. Ensuring accountability
  2. Acting as a ‘critical friend’ to the Head Teacher
  3. Monitoring and evaluating school progress
  4. Managing budgets
  5. Planning and overseeing school improvements
  6. Setting school aims and values
  7. Appointing senior staff, including the Head Teacher
  8. Participating in committees focused on finance, achievement, etc., which meet separately and report back to the full governing body
