The Detention Services Security Team (DSST) plays a critical role in safeguarding the detention estate by providing independent second-line assurance across Intelligence, Security, Use of Force (UoF), Health and Safety, and Violence Reduction functions.
DSST works closely with Detention Services (DS) Compliance Teams, Contracted Service Providers (CSPs), and operational partners to ensure Immigration Removal Centres (IRCs) are operated safely, securely, and in accordance with Home Office policy, contractual obligations, legislative requirements, and professional standards.
As a Security Risk and Assurance Manager within DSST, you will play a key role in delivering assurance activity across the detention estate, leading workstreams, managing projects, and supporting the delivery of national priorities. You will build and maintain effective relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, providing expert advice and challenge where required.
A key element of this role is providing end to end oversight of the Excessive Disruptive Behaviour (EDB) process, ensuring cases are managed and progressed effectively, consistently, and within agreed timescales. You will act as the lead for EDB governance, supporting decision making and ensuring robust assurance and risk management processes are in place.
The successful candidate will also contribute to wider DSST priorities through reviews, assurance activity, analysis of intelligence and operational data, and the delivery of projects aimed at improving safety, security and compliance across the detention estate.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the administration, governance and continuous improvement of the EDB process, ensuring referrals are managed effectively, proportionately and within agreed standards, with accurate records and audit trails.
- Lead DSST workstreams and projects, managing priorities, delivery, risks, milestones and deadlines.
- Provide Subject Matter Expert (SME) advice, quality assure intelligence, security and UoF assessments, and ensure evidence based, impartial outcomes.
- Oversee data collection, analysis and reporting to identify risks, trends and emerging issues, producing dashboards, briefings and recommendations for senior leaders.
- Lead or contribute to IRC assurance reviews, assess compliance with policy, contractual and legislative requirements, and translate findings into actionable improvements.
- Build effective stakeholder relationships, lead engagement activities, and promote understanding of policy and best practice.
- Provide day-to-day direction, coaching and support to colleagues, fostering consistent standards, development and collaboration.
Working Pattern
Due to the business requirements of this role, it is only available on a full-time basis.
Travel
Frequent travel will be required, regular deployment to Immigration Removal Centres (IRCs) and other locations. Frequent overnight stays are required of the position.
