We’re recruiting for Lead Analytics Engineers across a range of roles here at the Ministry of Justice, to be part of our warm and collaborative Data & Analytics Engineering community. This role aligns against Lead Analytics Engineer from the Government Digital and Data Framework. This is a great opportunity to work with leading cloud technology and help change the way data is used in the public sector. Analytics engineers at MoJ play a critical role in our mission to put data at the heart of decision-making. We're looking for people with the drive to develop a deep understanding of data needs and data availability across specific areas of the Ministry of Justice. You will lead a team of Analytics Engineers, working alongside Data Engineers, to bridge the gap between data producers and data users, developing analytical pipelines and self-service tools to acquire and transform data, making it available on our Analytical Platform.

- CICA: The Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA) is transforming how it uses data to improve services and operational performance. As an Analytics Engineer, you will lead the design of analytical data models across legacy and modern digital systems, helping to build a unified view of CICA’s operations. Working closely with data scientists and business colleagues, you will tackle complex data challenges, support digital transformation, and deliver insights that drive organisational change.
- Finance Analytics and Reporting: This role will lead the ongoing development, optimisation and governance of the data and reporting architecture underpinning a standardised suite of Power BI dashboards that provide trusted financial insight to budget holders and senior stakeholders. Building on the delivery of a centralised reporting framework, the post holder will drive the refactoring and enhancement of existing data pipelines to improve performance, scalability, and maintainability.
- Cross Government Division: This role will lead Analytics Engineering in the Cross-Government Division, which brings together policy, data, and analytical capability to address complex justice challenges that cut across departmental boundaries.
- Analytics Engineering Centre for Excellence: As Analytics Engineering lead within our Centre for Excellence for the Data and Analytics Engineering professions, this is a critical technical leadership role that will be responsible for ensuring we continue to develop and embed consistent technical, process and cultural capabilities across our teams.
- People Analytics Engineering: As the lead of People Analytics Engineering, you will be driving the next phase of development of a unified HR data model.

Key Responsibilities:
- Gathering user requirements and translating them into clear, deliverable tasks.
- Leading a team of Analytics Engineers to build flexible, quality-assured dimensional data models for analytical and reporting use.
- Working with Data Engineers to manage end-to-end data services and to deploy solutions in a reproducible, sustainable way.
- Supporting analytical teams to use modelled data effectively.
- Creating and promoting best practices within the analytics engineering community.
- Keeping up to date with current trends and best practices in analytics engineering for continuous improvement.
- Managing, mentoring or coaching junior colleagues.
Essential:
- Using SQL to query and transform data.
- Leading a technical team, preferably one that uses data modelling to support reporting or analysis.
- Designing data solutions that meet business needs while following recognised patterns and standards.
- Designing, implementing and communicating appropriate data testing and quality assurance processes.
