The Cabinet Office supports the Prime Minister and ensures the effective running of government. We are also the corporate headquarters for government, in partnership with HM Treasury, and we take the lead in certain critical policy areas.
These roles sit within HR Operations in the Careers Transition Service (CTS) in the People and Places Directorate. The purpose of the CTS is to support staff who have become displaced due to organisational change, to take their next career step; whether this is through redeployment or to exit the Cabinet Office. You will lead on a high profile, challenging and exciting area of work, which will make a real impact both to the Cabinet Office and importantly to those in the service. Our ambition is that everyone transitioning through the service receives a high-level of dedicated support.
As a Senior Career Coach, you will be a valued team leader, alongside Career Coaching you will lead and support the HEO Career Coaches. In the role you will also utilise your leadership experience to help colleagues at risk of redundancy with career choices and opportunities for further support and development by building strong and trusting relationships.
Key Accountabilities- Leadership and Support: Provide consistent leadership and support to HEO Career Coaches, guiding them in managing CTS cohorts through the service towards redeployment or exit. Ensure HEO Career Coaches and their cohorts have access to advice and guidance on outplacement information and support.
- Team Development: Support the development of a strong, high-performing team through coaching and mentoring, helping to shape and deliver CTS through its next phase of development.
- Engagement and Wellbeing: Work closely with Career Coaches and their cohorts, conducting regular engagements to offer a high level of dedicated support, with a particular focus on empathy and individual wellbeing.
- Process Administration: Lead the day‑to‑day administration of processes, offering timely and accurate advice to Career Coaches and their cohorts during this transition. This involves ensuring prompt actions, maintaining robust data, and escalating situations when necessary.
- Management Actions: Provide comprehensive support to Career Coaches as line management of individuals moves into CTS, enabling them to undertake various management actions for CTS members across processes such as redeployment, exit options, and SOP actions.
You will already have a successful track record in HR or Operational Delivery. This is essential given the knowledge and experience required and timescales involved to deliver at pace. Successful candidates will provide strong evidence of:
- Interpersonal Skills: Confidence and resilience to navigate difficult conversations with empathy and understanding. Ability to coach and mentor others in handling challenging discussions.
- Problem Solving Skills: Awareness and consideration of opportunities and risks that impact the team and delivery of its work. Proactive thinking to anticipate outcomes and impacts of decisions or interventions. Ability to understand issues and propose pragmatic solutions.
- Communication and Collaboration: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Confidence and experience in engaging with stakeholders and colleagues at all levels. Ability to actively build and leverage a network of stakeholders to achieve objectives.
- Leadership and Management: Experience of leading teams and line management experience.
- Customer Service Orientation: Driven by a desire to provide excellent customer service, balancing business priorities with empathetic and kind management of CTS members.
- Data Analysis: Ability to capture, create and present robust data sets and insights.
