Overview

Economic growth is a key mission of this Government and increasing foreign and domestic investment is crucial for creating jobs, improving living standards, and making communities and families across the country better off.

The Office for Investment (OfI) is an exciting, creative, and dynamic place to work, offering a unique opportunity to be part of a motivated and driven team from both commercial and public sector backgrounds. The OfI is a joint unit between No.10, HMT, and the Department for Business and Trade (DBT), streamlining how the government approaches business and investment. Our vision and mission are to secure investment to drive growth, job creation, and increased productivity across the UK – with a focus on those sectors and regions in the government’s Modern Industrial strategy. We are looking for people to join us with a passion for this cause.

The OfI provides bespoke services to strategically important businesses and investors, including commercial capability and marketing and analytical functions. Our team is connected across Whitehall and uses networks from overseas posts through to the UK’s nations and regions to deliver strategically important investment. Our structure requires staff across all grades to work directly alongside the senior leadership team and provides direct exposure to ministers and senior business executives.

We are proactive and entrepreneurial, delivering ambitious outcomes aligned to the Industrial Strategy and HMG Missions. As a centre of excellence for attracting and growing investment, we want to attract talented people from the private sector and across government who are curious, creative, and agile in pursuing emerging opportunities for the UK.

Key Accountabilities

The job holder will promote the UK as the top investment destination to institutional investors such as sovereign wealth funds, pension funds, asset managers, venture capitalists and developers, targeting the largest pools of capital across Asia, Europe, the Gulf and other key markets as required.

  • You will form collaborative, trusted relationships with top investors, providing guidance on complex policy areas, and where appropriate, working with them to shape their UK market entry/expansion strategy. This may involve focusing on a particular country or countries and/or working across a specific geographical region.
  • Support building and maintaining effective relationships with the OfI’s networks and teams to deliver capital investment objectives.
  • You will analyse the investors’ investment criteria, identify how they overlap with government priorities, and work in teams of colleagues across government to help the investor seize opportunities and overcomes challenges in their UK activities.
  • Supporting and leading on key initiatives such as webinars, key regional and national events, and senior level roundtables.

Cross team working

  • Work across teams and develop contacts both within government and externally to pull together insights on target investors in relation to the UK private markets, trends and private capital and corporate investment. Use these insights to support wider government policy.
  • Support the wider team on how they engage with your category of investors, including briefings and updates to the CRM.
  • Identify ways to increase cross regional collaboration and share best practises.
  • Contribute to relevant databases, reporting and performance tools.

The successful candidates will be expected to work flexibly across all geographies and asset classes.
