The Home Office works to build a safe, fair and prosperous UK. We achieve this through our work on counter-terrorism, policing, crime, drugs policy, immigration and passports. The Chief Operating Officer Group works closely with the Home Office’s policy and operational commands to enable us together to deliver the department’s priorities. The group is comprised of different teams and professional functions, including Commercial, Finance, People, Portfolio and Project Delivery, Security, Estates and Information and Digital, Data and Technology.

The Directorate is managed by two Directors:

  • Strategic Finance & Business Partnering Director: Overseeing the Department’s finance business partnering, financial strategic finance services, financial planning, productivity and efficiency, as well as the fees and income planning team.
  • Operational Finance & Shared Services Director: Overseeing finance change and shared services agenda, management accounts, financial accounts, transactional functions, portfolio finance.

Overseeing the running of the department finances, focusing more upon the ‘finance machine’ that produces the statutory reporting, management information and sets the financial controls control environment for the Home Office. We also have a team leading the change, learning and development and continuous improvement within the finance space. The team is made up of a Chief of Staff, G7 Head of Executive & Business support, SEOs, HEOs & EOs.

As a Senior Executive Support Manager, you will need experience in a fast-paced environment, providing high level administrative and business support. This is an exciting time to join the FD’s Business Support team, which is a small and friendly team who support the FDs in their day-to-day role as well as assisting them in delivering the organisation’s priorities. We are keen for someone who is willing to learn in this busy atmosphere.

This role will support the G7 in delivering all aspects of Business Planning, including the Finance Business Plan and Business Continuity for the Directorate. In addition, you will provide the secretariat support for the Quarterly Extended SMT meeting and monitor actions. You will also be responsible for tracking and monitoring Risk and Audit recommendations and ensuring these are regularly updated. You will support the G7 in managing the KOSI (Finance Managed Service partner). You may be required to prepare first drafts of reports, presentations or briefing papers for senior staff. The ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing is crucial. You’ll be a key point of contact, liaising with a wide range of stakeholders and work collaboratively as part of a team, offering support and guidance to colleagues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Co-ordination of Directorate Business Plan, liaising with the Senior Management Team to agree priorities and drafting their business area paragraph.
  • Create and manage the working group to design and draft directorate plan.
  • Support the Head of Business & Executive support to plan and organise extended quarterly SMT meetings and FD away days.
  • Lead the Directorate Business Continuity plans, creating a directorate network of BC planners and ensuring plans are up to date and tested on a regular basis.
  • Track audit actions, regularly liaise with owners to ensure they have taken action to close outstanding audits and have updated Morgan.
  • Co-ordinate Finance response to Assurance, Places of Growth, NAO, GIAA audits ensuring that we provide returns within deadline and to a good quality.
  • KPI & Productivity and Efficiency monitoring.
  • Support the Directorate’s SMT in delivering on the 5 corporate priorities to ensure that we’re improving as a Directorate in the way we function.
  • Support G7 in the management of KOSI contract which will involve tracking requests, liaising with KOSI on requirements, tracking expenditure and working with Management Accountant to journal costs to relevant cost centres.

Working Pattern

This role is available on a full-time basis with the option of compressed hours working. This role is also suitable for part-time working hours, with a minimum requirement to work 3 days / 22.2 hours per week due to business requirements.
