Overview

The Home Office works to build a safe, fair, and prosperous UK. We achieve this through our work on counter-terrorism, policing, crime, drugs policy, immigration, and passports.

Home Office Digital (HOD) designs, builds and develops services for the rest of the department and for government. Every year our systems support up to 3 million visa applications, checks on 100 million border crossings, up to 8 million passport applications and deliver 140 million police checks on people, vehicles and property.

The Senior Business Engagement Manager will cover Communications and Engagement.

You will be someone who has a passion for communications, interested in technology, and an advocate for change. You will be an experienced communicator with excellent stakeholder management skills and have experience in helping to deliver communications and engagement strategies in complex organisations. You will be able to translate highly complex technical messages into easily digestible communications for a wide range of engaged stakeholders.

You will be supporting projects and programmes and will be able to influence leaders and challenge thinking. You will have proven experience in stakeholder management, with the ability to map all stakeholders and successfully understand their requirements, concerns and priorities. You will also support internal staff engagement within the Portfolio, working with leaders and staff to help them engage proactively and transparently.

You will be part of the Business Change and Communications Team. You will work closely with other members of the team to ensure alignment across the team and wider HOD, and to ensure we have supporting leadership communications in place to help our managers engage with their teams.

Business Engagement roles within HOD are aligned to the Government Communications Profession.

Key responsibilities

  • Supporting the Business Change and Communications Lead in developing and implementing engagement and communication strategies across Enablers Portfolio deliveries, delivering key messages to a range of audiences and stakeholders.
  • Delivering key stakeholder engagement and communications products. Mapping, and managing, stakeholders to understand their needs and ensuring buy-in to business change.
  • Producing and managing internal communication products, aligned with wider HOD communication strategies and messaging, to support staff engagement.
  • Developing key leadership stakeholder engagement and communications products such as leadership newsletters, blogs, and messages.
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of stakeholder engagement, and communication tools, identifying lessons learned and areas of improvement.
  • Developing and delivering engagement/communications initiatives and campaigns, ensuring they reflect the organisations values and objectives. Contributing to HOD wide staff engagement events.
  • Working with wider members of the Business Change and Communications Team to ensure consistency in messaging and approaches across the Directorate.

Line Management

Line management may be required in the future.

Travel

Occasional travel may be required to other work locations within the UK and may include overnight stays. All related costs will be reimbursed in line with Home Office policy.

Working Pattern

Due to business requirements, this role is available on a full-time basis with the option of compressed hours working.
