The Department for Business and Trade works to grow the UK economy, supporting businesses to invest, export and innovate. The Business Strategy and Briefing team helps drive this mission. We work across 30 sector teams to shape delivery, support senior decision‑making, and ensure stakeholders are well informed.

The team’s work includes building trusted relationships with colleagues across DBT to coordinate the effective delivery of projects, briefing and correspondence. We help bring clarity, pace and consistency to fast‑moving and high‑profile work. We are a warm, supportive and high‑performing team. We take pride in delivering high‑quality work at pace. We are a newly merged team, using this opportunity to refresh how we work, build strong relationships and create inclusive, supportive ways of working. We come together regularly for socials and team‑building events.

This is a leadership role in the briefing segment of the team. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing a large team of 4 – 6 HEO and SEO colleagues.
  • Embedding refreshed ways of working, supporting colleagues, and fostering a positive, inclusive and delivery‑focused team culture.
  • Rapidly responding to fast‑moving commissions, supporting the team to deliver inputs into briefings, presentations and dashboards to a high standard.
  • Maintaining relationships with senior colleagues across the department, ensuring the team maintains its reputation as a trusted point of contact for drafting and briefing, and incoming requests are directed to the correct teams.
  • Driving quality improvements across the department, by influencing private office, strategy and digital teams to deliver better outcomes for end users.
  • Shaping the team’s systems and driving continuous improvement, including leading our work on embedding new AI tools using Microsoft Co‑pilot and Amazon Quick Sight.
  • Developing new dashboards, KPIs and reporting tools to keep senior stakeholders informed of progress.

This role comes with end‑to‑end ownership and a high degree of autonomy. You will be managing a large team, trusted to exercise judgement and maintain grip on delivery. Your precise work areas are likely to evolve over time. You should expect to shift your focus as new needs and priorities arise.
