Role context

Micromobility, such as shared cycles and e-scooters, is rapidly changing urban transport and the Government is introducing a new licensing regime for shared on-street schemes through the English Devolution and Community Empowerment Bill. This role will support in developing and delivering this licensing framework. It will also involve managing e-scooter trials across England, and working with operators, local authorities and Ministers to ensure safe, effective services. This is a dynamic policy role shaping a growing sector and informing future legislation.

We are seeking an organised, energetic, and insightful policymaker to join the micromobility team. The role holder will balance ongoing operational delivery with creative and considered contributions to the ongoing policy development required to keep up with a lively industry.

Responsibilities
  • Providing advice, briefing, and support to Ministers on licensing shared cycle schemes and managing the e-scooter trials.
  • Shaping the longer-term vision and policy development process which will be necessary to implement the licensing framework for shared cycles.
  • Planning and leading stakeholder engagement to ensure safe and successful e-scooter trial operations and well-informed policy, including parliamentary engagement and working with the private and third sectors.
  • Leading on team planning and project management, ensuring delivery of all products on time and to a high standard.
