Do you have a strong understanding of DVSA services, including relevant policies, processes, and the operational environment? Have you interpreted legislation, standards, and policy to support assessments, provide recommendations, or deliver service improvements? Can you quickly learn new information and adapt to fast‑changing technology, particularly within the Automated Driving Systems (ADS) space?
As a DVSA warrant card holder (cars, trucks or buses), you’ll apply your testing expertise to assess automated driving systems (ADS). Working within the Connected and Automated Mobility Services (CAMS) team, this role supports the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency’s (DVSA) work on assessing Automated Driving Systems (ADS). A key part of the role is close collaboration with the Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA). You will work alongside VCA to share findings, support joint assessment activities, and ensure DVSA’s understanding of ADS behaviour aligns with VCA’s certification requirements. The role focuses on how ADS behaviour and safety are assessed as part of wider VCA processes.
As an ADS Assessor, you will review, test, and assess how an Automated Driving System behaves. This includes checking developer documentation, understanding how the ADS works in different situations, and ensuring your assessments support the VCA approvals process. As the technology evolves rapidly, you will need to stay up to date with new technological developments, real world use cases, and government priorities. You will work closely with DVSA teams as well as with the Department for Transport (DfT) and the Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CCAV), to support the safe introduction of automated driving technologies.
Responsibilities:
- Evaluate ADS behavioural performance and produce clear documentation, analysis, and feedback to support the safety assessment and approval process.
- Provide subject matter expertise to assure the product manager that proposed processes and service developments meet the operational, safety and compliance requirements of ADS assessment and the wider approvals process.
- Provide expert technical advice and guidance on the assessment of Automated Driving Systems (ADS) to internal and external stakeholders. This includes explaining ADS assessment outcomes, responding to technical enquiries, and presenting findings or safety concerns to groups and project teams.
- Work with the appropriate DVSA teams to support continuous improvement in ADS assessment and delivery of CAMS objectives.
- Represent the CAMS programme at relevant events, strengthening DVSA’s profile in the ADS and CAMS space.
