Join the Department for Work and Pensions as a Data Scientist, where you'll help shape the future of automation and AI by working on ServiceNow's Virtual Agent and platform. Your work will simplify digital workflows, improve user experience, and prepare the department for generative AI integration, driving efficiency and innovation across critical services. The platform currently supports circa 120,000 colleagues across the multiple ServiceNow modules and applications, exposing us regularly to a wide range of different challenges and opportunities within the ServiceNow ecosphere.

Work with advanced analytics, machine learning, and programming skills to identify actionable insights, automate processes, and support strategic transformation programmes. Your work will directly contribute to improving service efficiency and reducing manual effort across DWP’s digital services.

Responsibilities
  • Own and deliver data science projects focused on ServiceNow automation and Virtual Agent optimisation.
  • Apply machine learning and AI techniques to improve user experience and automate service delivery.
  • Contribute to identifying and driving improvements in organisational capability, including enhancements to data science skills, technologies, and processes, to support continuous development and innovation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including developers, product owners, and user researchers.
  • Prototype and iterate solutions using Python, R, SQL, and visualisation tools (e.g. Power BI, Jupyter).
  • Communicate insights effectively to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ensure all work adheres to privacy, security, and ethical data standards.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to colleagues by supporting their development in data science techniques, tools, and best practice, helping to strengthen capability across the team.
