The Migration and Borders Group is responsible for guiding the UK’s immigration, borders, asylum, and citizenship system, ensuring it is run in a coherent, end-to-end manner. It aims to provide excellent customer service while applying fair but firm controls, aligned with Ministerial objectives. The group collaborates with the Border Security Command and Capabilities within the Home Office, including Border Force, Immigration Enforcement, and the Customer Services Group, which deliver front-line services, as well as other government and external partners.
The Director of Border Policy is a senior leadership role responsible for developing policy and providing systems leadership on cross-cutting border issues. The Director will work closely with operational partners and across government to achieve strategic goals.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the Home Office’s strategic vision and policies for securing the border.
- Collaborating with partners in Border Security, Border Force, HMRC, and other external agencies to deliver government priorities for border security.
- Leading the cross-HMG programme for the introduction of the EU Entry/Exit System.
- Overseeing customs and goods policy development.
- Driving transformation initiatives for the border, including leading policy development and delivery for ETAs and eVisas, and reviewing the Border Force operating mandate.
- Reviewing key visa policies.
- Leading the migration and border system’s crisis response capabilities.
- Participating as a senior leader in the Migration and Borders leadership team and serving on the Border Force senior management board.
