Chartered Surveyor - National Taxation β Role Overview
This role is within the National Taxation team of VOAβs District Valuation Services (DVS).
The team provides valuations and advice for National Taxation purposes on behalf of HMRC, Community Infrastructure Levy, Right to Buy, and DWP Benefits.
DVS carries out statutory and non-statutory functions, including:
- Providing advice on valuations and apportionments for national taxation.
- Offering valuations and property advice for Other Public Bodies to support their legislative and regulatory functions.
- Delivering government policies and estate strategies involving property requirements related to public functions and expenditure.
This technical surveying and leadership role offers an excellent opportunity to manage high-profile and complex casework across various property types. The role involves working within a fast-paced team to meet client needs, providing leadership, guidance, and valuation advice regionally and nationally.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership and support to the national tax team on a regional and national basis.
- Assist the DVS management team, working with Team Leaders and the Sector Head to ensure a diverse workforce capable of achieving quality and budget goals.
- Undertake complex valuation casework for HMRC and DWP, supporting benefits administration, Right to Buy, and Community Infrastructure Levy.
- Support the management of NTβs Initial Appraisal Unit and HMRCβs initial appraisals.
- Assist the London area with trade-related valuations and development appraisals.
- Collaborate with specialists on technical and policy issues.
- Review high-profile or complex valuations, identify risks, and ensure quality and timeliness.
- Provide technical guidance, training, and mentorship to caseworkers at regional and national levels.
- Stay informed on political, economic, social, technical, environmental, and legislative factors affecting DVS and the sector.
- Report to stakeholders, including Ministerial levels when necessary.
- Manage risks to support timely casework and tax revenue collection.
- Enhance customer satisfaction and taxpayer experience.
- Act as an expert witness or provide evidence in tribunals and arbitration as needed.
- Promote skill sharing, best practices, and innovation within the team.
