Chartered Surveyor – Health Complex Caseworker – Role Overview

District Valuer Services (DVS) provides professional property services across the public sector, including to private and third sector clients in delivering public services and functions of a public nature. Our clients include the Central, Local and Devolved Government, Health and Transport.

This role sits within the Health Sector, where we work with NHS clients to provide advice across a range of product areas including valuations for reimbursement under the NHS Premises Costs Directions, Value for Money Advice, estates advice and IFRS compliant asset valuations.

You will work within a fast-paced team to meet increasing client requirements across a range of health sector casework including litigation cases. You will deliver complex casework, provide technical guidance to clients and colleagues and support other caseworkers within DVS. You will also assist with building capability within the team.

This exciting opportunity will also include project management and leading high profile casework for high profile clients.

This role will be to predominantly support London and the South East, with an expectation that you will travel to this area on a regular basis with potential overnight stays to carry out inspections. We will be reasonable with our expectations and provide flexible working arrangements to support this need.

Chartered Surveyor – Health Complex Caseworker – Key responsibilities

  • Maintaining and applying an advanced level of valuation surveying knowledge to own casework activity and conduct reviews of high profile or complex valuations for peers and team members.
  • Casework will typically fall within the following key areas:
    • Providing value for money advice to the NHS in connection with proposed new primary care schemes.
    • Leading on disputed cases under the Doctors’ Rent and Rates Reimbursement Scheme, sometimes involving preparation and submission of expert witness reports.
    • Providing of a range of estates advice to NHS clients, including valuations for acquisitions, disposals, landlord and tenant etc.
    • Providing IFRS compliant asset valuations to NHS Bodies for financial accounting purposes.
  • Providing technical guidance and support to caseworkers within DVS and across the sector to build capability and the delivery of timeliness targets, primarily on a regional basis.
  • Ensuring an awareness of the wider political, economic, social, technical, environmental, and legislative agendas that impact DVS and Health Sector clients.
  • Developing and maintaining strong relationships with DVS clients and ensuring customer satisfaction, understanding and challenging the needs of the client.
  • Maintaining a good understanding of the links to other work areas and the external business environment.
  • Identifying risks and issues and making recommendations on action to be taken.

As a DVS Complex Caseworker you will also be responsible for:

  • Dealing with large complex portfolio work requiring extensive experience of the Health Sector casework.
  • Overseeing and supporting less experienced colleagues, to coach, share knowledge and providing technical support.
  • Supporting the Senior Management Team in the upskilling of colleagues across the sector to build capability.

This role will require the successful candidate to undertake work in London and the South East of England and be prepared to travel to these regions on a regular basis. We will be reasonable with our expectations and provide flexible working arrangements to support this need.
