Do you have charity law experience that you can use to help others? Are you keen to influence the formation, interpretation and application of charity law at a national level? Are you skilled in sharing knowledge and training up teams? You will support the Commission’s strategic aims and operational goals by providing high quality knowledge management legal advice, to support the work of the legal and knowledge management teams. This includes supporting the design and delivery of an improved knowledge management system and supporting internal training of lawyers in the Commission. You will also support lawyers developing internal and external guidance.
This is an exciting opportunity to provide high impact legal advice, directly influencing the formation, interpretation and application of charity law and policy at a national level. The Legal Directorate has 25 lawyers, split into five teams: Legal Policy, Charitable Status, Compliance and Enforcement, Permissions and Information law and Litigation. The teams operate as a tight peer group, guiding and supporting each other within teams and also across the teams where their different disciplines overlap. The role will sit in the Legal Policy team, reporting to the Head of Legal Policy.
The main things the successful candidate will be doing are:
- Reviewing bank of existing know how to create an easily maintainable and AI searchable comprehensive database of legal precedent advice, templates, judgments, legal know-how and other resources that reflect the business’s strategic priorities and risk-led regulation.
- Providing authoritative legal advice on a range of issues, including on the use of the Commission’s regulatory powers, enabling powers and charitable status questions to ensure decisions made following in reliance on that guidance can withstand challenge in the First-tier Tribunal, and the development of new policy positions.
- Delivering training and developing and advising on guidance, templates and standard letters to enable casework colleagues to make robust regulatory decisions.
- Assessing and engaging with developments affecting charities, which can include government consultations, policy proposals and draft legislation.
