About the Office
The Office for Investment (OfI) was spun out of Downing Street in January 2021 and is now a joint unit between No.10, HM Treasury and the Department for Business and Trade (DBT). The OfI is an exciting, creative and dynamic place to work among a motivated and driven team with both commercial and public sector backgrounds. The Office works closely with Secretaries of State, Junior Ministers, HM Treasury and No.10 to deliver the highest‑value, highest‑profile investment propositions. It operates a flexible and flat structure which means that staff across all grades have the opportunity to work directly alongside the senior leadership and have direct exposure to Ministers and senior business executives.
Role Overview
As a Strategic Project Manager in the OfI Strategy Team, you will work across a varied and high‑profile portfolio. The role has a dual focus: approximately 50% of the time supporting the Head of Ministerial Briefings to deliver high‑quality briefing products for senior leaders and Ministers, and 50% contributing to wider OfI strategy and cross‑government investment priorities.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborating closely with investment delivery teams across the OfI, including UK regional teams, overseas posts, and sector specialists, to support the delivery of strategic objectives.
- Communicating and working effectively with a wide range of senior stakeholders, providing advice to senior leaders and Ministers, building strong relationships across Whitehall, and ensuring strategic projects are well understood and delivered successfully.
- Supporting OfI's Ministerial Briefings and parliamentary function, including producing high‑quality briefing products, coordinating inputs from across the office, drafting responses to Parliamentary Questions, and preparing briefing packs for Ministers and senior officials.
- Leading the drafting of correspondence to Members of Parliament and other key stakeholders.
- Providing secretariat support to the Office for Investment’s governance boards, including coordinating papers, actions, and follow‑up.
- Applying sound judgement and problem‑solving skills to overcome barriers and deliver project aims at pace, often in a fast‑moving and politically sensitive environment.
- Working flexibly across the team to support a range of projects aimed at streamlining and improving HMG’s approach to securing transformative and strategic investment into the UK. This may include supporting strategic planning cycles, prioritisation processes, and work to improve the consistency and quality of written advice and briefings across OfI.
