Do you have an inquisitive and analytical mind? Processing bank statements into Excel, analysing transactions, and articulating findings is a major part of the role. Do you excel in a supportive and dynamic team? Teamworking is a key aspect of our team who are knowledgeable, experienced and supportive. Can you efficiently and effectively use your judgement? The ability to categorise bank transactions using sound judgement to ensure charitable funds are protected and used appropriately is the core work of this role.

The Accountancy team is a close-knit team of 16 that leads on providing expert advice to the Commission’s case work, proactive projects relating to charity finances, as well as leading on policy proposals with a significant Accountancy element and advising on projects within the business. Working within the accountancy team you will be assisting the accountants by analysing financial information relating to charities. You will also work with case officers to progress work referred to the accountancy team.

Main Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assist the team of Accountants with the review of accounting records and bank statements from Charities using specialist Altia software when necessary, highlighting and documenting issues in a written report recommending next steps for action so that the team of accountants can progress casework quickly and efficiently.
  • Carry out preliminary reviews of charity reports and accounts on matters referred from operational casework producing reports to identify any possible causes for concern and any instances of failure to comply with the Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) for charities.
  • Support the team in undertaking proactive systematic or ad hoc accounts monitoring exercises to identify trends or areas of non-compliance.
  • Provide general ad hoc support to the accountants including assisting in books and records visits to Charities as and when required under the supervision of an accountant.
  • Support continuous improvement and better ways of working. This will include being innovative with technology.
  • Personally contribute to the achievement of the department’s targets, including performance and quality expectations.
  • Contribute at team meetings and provide support to the gathering of team activity statistics and administrative support as required.
  • Undertake the agreed course of study for professional development for Accounting Technician necessary to undertake the analytical aspects of the role.
