Job Responsibilities:

Data Architect
Working hours: Part-time, job-share, or full-time options available.
Salary: £65-£70,000 depending on experience plus benefits.
Location: Birmingham, with options in Fareham, Swindon, Farnborough, or London.
Overview: As an insurance company, Zurich values data as a key asset. We seek a Data Architect to design, develop, and manage our data architecture, ensuring efficient and secure data handling. The role involves translating business requirements into effective data solutions, standards, and principles, and working across teams to embed a data-led culture.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Model best practices for data across the organization.
  • Embed a data-led culture at the core of our business.
  • Build relationships within the UK and Group to influence and learn.
  • Translate business needs into robust data solutions.
  • Develop and maintain reference architecture for data processes.
  • Support the rollout of the UK Data Strategy.
  • Ensure provision of accessible, trusted data as a strategic asset.
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert and provide consultancy and training.
  • Maintain governance around data, including metadata and reference data management.
  • Stay updated with emerging data tools, frameworks, and trends.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Experience in a data role with understanding of data fundamentals.
  • Experience with cloud data technologies (Snowflake, AWS, Azure) preferred; SQL, NoSQL, Hadoop experience also valued.
  • Knowledge of database structures, data analysis, and mining.
  • Understanding of data warehousing, lakes, ETL/ELT, and big data tech.
  • Skills in data modelling, product design, and visualization tools.
  • Knowledge of data governance and security.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to present technical and business insights effectively.
  • Experience in developing target states and roadmaps is a plus.
  • Practical, hands-on experience in large organizations is desirable.
