This recruitment pool will remain open for a period of 12 months and will be used to fill vacancies based in Kensington. Applications for this pool close at midday on Wednesday, 8 July 2026.

The People and Culture Directorate provides a full range of people management services to support the business objectives of the Department of Biodiversity Conservation and Attractions, which includes the Botanic Gardens and Parks Authority, Rottnest Island Authority, and Zoological Parks Authority. The Directorate provides administrative and advisory services to all employees in relation to payroll, personnel functions (recruitment through to termination), safety and health, welfare management, workers compensation, employee relations, and learning and development.

We are seeking to establish a pool of suitable candidates in the role of Payroll Support Officer (Level 2) and Payroll Officer (Level 3).

The Payroll Support Officer provides transactional payroll support to ensure the accurate and timely processing of employee salary, leave, and allowance payments. The role processes payroll transactions and undertakes routine checking activities in accordance with established procedures, industrial instruments, and legislation. Working under routine supervision, the position supports payroll quality outcomes by escalating discrepancies and issues in line with documented processes and contributing to consistent payroll service delivery.

The Payroll Officer provides a customer-focused, professional payroll and workforce services function with a strong emphasis on payroll accuracy, quality assurance, and legislative compliance. The role undertakes, checks, and quality assures a broad range of personnel and payroll processing activities, including commencements, variations, leave, allowances, terminations, overpayments, and the review of fortnightly payroll reports to ensure accurate and timely payments. Operating under limited direction, the position works collaboratively with the Payroll Reconciliation Officer and Workforce Services staff to manage overpayments, strengthen payroll governance, and maintain consistent, compliant payroll processes and controls. The role applies awards, agreements, and payroll requirements and contributes to the continuous improvement of payroll quality assurance practices across the Workforce Services function.

Selection Criteria:

  • Payroll Support Officer (Level 2)
    • Demonstrated experience in processing payroll or workforce services transactions in a computerised payroll or Human Resource Management Information System, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
    • Demonstrated ability to follow procedures, apply payroll instructions, and work accurately within established timeframes in a payroll or administrative environment.
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team, manage own workload, and provide a responsive customer service within a high-volume processing environment.
  • Payroll Officer (Level 3)
    • Demonstrated experience in undertaking payroll processing and quality assurance activities in a complex organisation, including checking payroll transactions and outcomes to ensure accuracy and compliance with industrial instruments, legislation, policies, and procedures.
    • Demonstrated experience in applying payroll-related awards, agreements, and legislative requirements (including superannuation and taxation) in the processing, checking, and correction of payroll transactions.
    • Demonstrated experience in the use of an integrated Human Resource Management Information System (HRMIS) to process, verify, and correct payroll data, supported by sound attention to detail and recordkeeping practices.
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team in a high-volume, deadline-driven payroll environment, including managing own workload, contributing to shared outcomes, and maintaining professional working relationships.
