Role Summary

This role provides mental health nursing care to offenders, requiring liaison with prison colleagues, probation services, education staff, security personnel, and external NHS providers in primary and secondary care and visiting specialists when required. The role supports senior staff in developing high‑quality mental health care programmes through effective assessment, development and implementation, and works within a multi‑disciplinary team to assess care needs and deliver nursing care using the CPA processes and risk assessment & care planning. It also maintains accurate records, promotes health and wellbeing using evidence‑based practice, and strives to improve offender healthcare services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide mental health nursing care to offenders.
  • Collaborate with prison colleagues, probation services, education staff, security personnel, and external NHS providers.
  • Support senior staff in developing high‑quality mental health care programmes.
  • Assess care needs and provide high‑quality nursing care as part of a multi‑disciplinary team using CPA processes and risk assessment.
  • Maintain accurate, legible records based on the CPA care‑plan process and liaise with other care providers and the wider prison establishment.
  • Promote overall health and wellbeing of the offender population using evidence‑based practice.
  • Deliver and constantly strive to improve offender healthcare services under senior staff direction.
  • Reduce or mitigate effects of unhealthy or high‑risk behaviours (ACCT).
  • Promote effective links with health and related services in the community to ensure continuity of care through CPA.
  • Work as part of a multi‑disciplinary in‑patient team that manages a single referral pathway.

Candidate Requirements

  • Willingness to undergo National Security Vetting as part of pre‑employment checks.
  • Proof of right to work documentation.
  • Photographic ID.
  • Proof of address documentation (5‑year UK address history).
  • For non‑UK passport holders: correct documentation of right to work in the UK, a Home Office share code, and a police certificate in English if required.
  • For UK passport holders who have lived abroad for over six months in the last three years: a certificate of good conduct or an overseas police check in English from the countries resided in or visited.
