An exciting opportunity has arisen to support our Stores department! The post holder will assist in the operation of Avon Fire & Rescue Service's (AF&RS) Central Stores function by delivering and collecting equipment, goods and mail as part of the internal courier service. This will include working to planned routes and handling items on a rota basis. The post is for 3 days a week on a two week rota. One week working Monday - Wednesday and the other Wednesday - Friday.

Responsibilities

  • Load and unload delivery vehicles, and transport goods, equipment and mail to and from AFRS Headquarters, Operational Command Centre, Fire Stations and other Service locations.
  • Work in conjunction with the Breathing Apparatus (BA) Technicians to ensure speedy delivery of cylinders and BA sets.
  • Maintain a sound (non-technical) knowledge of operational equipment, repair facilities and the safe handling of such equipment.
  • Responsible for delivering and collecting financial documentation and/or mail to/from outside organisations (e.g. Bristol City Council), as required.
  • Maintain security when visiting unstaffed locations, including securing premises and setting alarms as necessary.
  • Drive and be responsible for allocated vehicles, undertaking oil and water checks and other routine maintenance, and cleaning.
  • Responsible for the safe use of the Unit's fork lift truck when required.
  • As the driver of a branded Avon Fire & Rescue Service vehicle, you must act in a professional manner and be capable of providing 'First Aid' action at any emergency as appropriate, which you might come upon.
  • Carry out any additional responsibilities as reasonable and appropriate, as agreed with line manager.
