Although better placed to develop economically and socially as a result of opening our international airport in 2017, we are not at the stage of self-sufficiency and therefore remain dependent on UK government aid.

Assisting with laboratory services, carrying out, and supervising technical and scientific work in all sections of the laboratory, you will liaise with clinical staff and undertake routine maintenance on lab instruments.

Following quality control, risk management and governance policies and procedures, you must help maintain KPIs and review and amend Standard Operating Procedures, working to accreditation standards.

You will help in formulating working practices and policies for the department, assist in the collection of data and sometimes deputise for your line manager. You will also assist in training and education, participate in CPD activities, and be involved in R&D, while monitoring stock and keeping the environment clutter free.

Holding an Honours Degree in Biomedical Sciences or equivalent, you have long standing registration as a Biomedical Scientist with HCPC. You have participated in mandatory courses and CPDand are competent in routine laboratory techniques and troubleshooting.

Experienced in the disciplines of Blood Sciences and Transfusion you are familiar with a computerised laboratory information system and have phlebotomy practical experience.

As an officer funded through the Technical Co-Operation Programme you will be expected to share your knowledge and skills beyond the workplace contributing to workforce, community and capacity development in St Helena.
