Women’s Residential Rehabilitation Service – Complex Emotional Needs

As a Senior Health Care Assistant, you will be part of a dedicated 24-hour residential rehabilitation team providing person-centred, trauma-informed support to women with complex emotional and mental health needs. You will play a vital role in creating a safe, therapeutic, and recovery-focused environment, supporting women to develop coping strategies, build independence, improve emotional wellbeing, and achieve their personal recovery goals.

Through compassionate and consistent support, you will help residents develop daily living skills, strengthen relationships, and gain confidence in managing their mental health. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will build positive therapeutic relationships with residents, contribute to care planning, support risk management, and promote engagement in meaningful activities that enhance recovery and quality of life.

The role requires resilience, empathy, and a strong commitment to supporting individuals who may experience emotional distress, self-harm, trauma-related difficulties, or challenges in interpersonal relationships. You will be expected to respond calmly and professionally in challenging situations while maintaining a supportive and non-judgemental approach.

Job Purpose

As a Senior Health Care Assistant you will provide high-quality, person-centred support to women living within a 24-hour residential rehabilitation service for individuals with complex emotional and mental health needs. Working within a trauma-informed and recovery-focused model, the post holder will support residents to achieve their personal recovery goals, develop independence, enhance emotional wellbeing, and build the skills and confidence needed for greater autonomy and community integration.

The post holder will establish and maintain therapeutic relationships that promote safety, trust, and empowerment, supporting residents through periods of emotional distress and facilitating engagement in meaningful daily activities and rehabilitation programmes. They will contribute to the delivery of care plans and risk management strategies ensuring residents receive compassionate, respectful, and dignified care at all times.

As part of a multidisciplinary team, the Senior Health Care Assistant will work collaboratively with the registered manager, deputy manager and multi-disciplinary team to create a safe, structured, and nurturing environment that supports recovery, resilience, and positive outcomes for residents. The post holder will contribute to the continuous development of the service through effective communication, accurate record keeping, reflective practice, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of care and safeguarding.

The role requires flexibility to work across a 24-hour rota, including evenings, weekends, nights, and bank holidays, ensuring the ongoing provision of safe and effective support for residents.

Statutory Responsibilities

The post holder is required to carry out their duties in accordance with relevant legislation, national guidance, regulatory requirements, and organisational policies to ensure the safety, wellbeing, and rights of residents are protected at all times.

• Safeguarding: Safeguard and promote the welfare of all residents, ensuring concerns are identified, recorded, and reported in line with safeguarding policies and procedures. Contribute to creating an environment that promotes safety, dignity, and protection from abuse, neglect, discrimination, or exploitation.
• Health and Safety: Comply with all Health and Safety legislation, organisational policies, and risk management procedures. Maintain a safe environment for residents, visitors, and colleagues by identifying and reporting hazards, incidents, accidents, and near misses. Follow lone working, infection prevention and control, fire safety, and emergency procedures.

Person Specification

The post holder will have:

• A good standard of literacy and numeracy.
• Willingness to complete mandatory training relevant to the role.
• Commitment to ongoing learning and development.
• Experience of working in a health, social care, support work, or residential care setting.
• Experience of providing person-centred support to individuals with complex needs.
• Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Experience of maintaining accurate records and documentation.
• Experience of working with individuals experiencing complex emotional needs, personality difficulties, trauma, self-harm, or mental health challenges.
• Experience of managing challenging situations or responding to emotional distress and crisis.

Qualifications

NVQ/QCF Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care, Care Certificate, or equivalent qualification. Training in mental health, safeguarding, trauma-informed care, positive behaviour support, or de-escalation techniques.
