The Government Legal Department is recruiting up to 10 Trade Lawyers to join advisory trade law teams across government.

This is a rare opportunity to work on legal issues that regularly feature in international negotiations, government policy and global affairs.

The work includes:

  • Advising on international trade law and public law.
  • Negotiation and implementation of international agreements.
  • Advising on trade-related policy development.
  • Drafting and analysing treaty text and legislation.
  • Supporting international negotiations.
  • Advising on trade disputes, dispute risks and judicial reviews.
  • Building relationships with policy officials, lawyers and negotiating partners.

Who are we looking for?

We are keen to hear from lawyers from a range of backgrounds, including:

  • Commercial Law
  • Regulatory Law
  • International Law
  • Trade Law
  • Litigation and Dispute Resolution

Previous trade law experience is advantageous but not essential. Strong legal judgement, analytical ability and an interest in public service are highly valued.
