Looking for a legal role where your advice helps shape the future of communities across the UK?

We're recruiting a Senior Lawyer to join the New Towns & Memorials Team within the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government Legal Advisers (MHCLG LA).

This is a genuinely unique opportunity to work on some of the Government's most significant projects, supporting the delivery of the New Towns Programme, the Oxford-Cambridge Growth Corridor, and nationally important projects including the Holocaust Memorial and Grenfell Tower Memorial.

Why this role?

This is not a traditional advisory role.

You will be working at the heart of major government projects, advising on legally complex, sensitive and high-profile matters that will leave a lasting legacy for future generations.

You'll have the opportunity to:

  • Work on projects of national significance
  • Influence major housing, infrastructure and regeneration programmes
  • Advise ministers and senior officials
  • Lead strategic legal workstreams
  • Manage and develop junior lawyers
  • Help shape policy and delivery on some of the Government's biggest priorities

What you'll be doing

  • Advising on complex public law, planning and commercial issues
  • Supporting the delivery of the New Towns Programme
  • Advising on development corporations and major growth projects
  • Supporting delivery of the Holocaust Memorial and Grenfell Memorial projects
  • Leading client relationships and legal workstreams
  • Managing and mentoring junior lawyers
  • Providing risk-based advice to senior stakeholders and ministers

What we're looking for

We're keen to hear from experienced lawyers who can demonstrate:

  • Strong public law, planning law or advisory experience
  • Excellent legal judgement and analytical ability
  • Experience advising on complex and high-profile matters
  • Leadership capability and team management experience
  • The ability to operate confidently in a fast-paced policy environment

Experience in public law, planning, grants, property, environmental or commercial law would be particularly valuable.

What we offer

  • Civil Service Pension with a 28.97% employer contribution
  • Flexible, hybrid and part-time working options
  • Outstanding learning and development opportunities
  • Exposure to major government projects and policy development
  • The opportunity to make a lasting impact on communities across the UK
