You will be based in our office, working alongside the team to support and assist with daily bookkeeping and accounts preparation.

Wage: £16,640 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age. National Minimum Wage rate for apprentices.

Training course: Accounts or finance assistant (level 2)

Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 9am-5pm. Wednesday 11am-7pm. 40 hours a week.

Start date: Monday 10 August 2026

Duration: 1 year 3 months

What you’ll do at work:

  • Processing bookkeeping records both manually and using receipt capture and accounting software
  • Reconciling bank accounts
  • Processing records and assisting with the preparation of personal tax returns
  • Maintaining accurate client records, managing deadlines and updating practice management software
  • Liaising with clients, message taking, requesting records and information and assisting with queries

Training provider: Runshaw College

What you’ll learn:

  • Record transactional data.
  • Use the organisation’s standard tools and processes to examine data to identify transactional issues such as reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices.
  • Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
  • Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
  • Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience and different media methods.
  • Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
  • Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.

  • Essential qualifications: GCSE English (grade A*-C/Grade 9-4 equivalent), GCSE Maths (grade A*-C/Grade 9-4 equivalent)

About this employer: We are a small accountancy practice providing bookkeeping, accounts and tax returns to approximately 300 clients. We are based in Aspull, Wigan.
